Yeah I agree ,the only question is does Fulmers strength overcome the skill deficit he'll have. Duran likes guys at middle who are there for him an that's Fulmer. A better match would be Basilo for Duran

Neither Moore or Barkley could take the gas like Fullmer he is a different animal ,and I speak as one who has never been a fan.Duran was not a top middleweight or even close to one ,Fullmer was in with guys like Giardello and Tiger,Webb, Robinson ,Fernandez. The Mormon would be too strong for Duran imo.

I think it's a mistake for people to think Duran couldn't and wouldn't hurt Gene. He could, and likely would in this fight. He was there to be hit, and would get hit with some brutal counters. I can also see Gene outworking Duran to a decision, so I'm not saying people are totally off here, I just don't think it's as easily done as people are saying. Likely scenario is, Duran wins most of the early rounds, but Gene's body work starts to slow him down a little and Gene takes most of the later rounds. Would it be enough? Maybe.

Fullmer would overpower, rough up and win a decision over Duran in much the same way that Mustafa Hamsho beat Wilfred Benitez.

I understand what you're saying, but W.B. purposely went to the corner or ropes for whatever reason. Duran would never do this to the extent W.B. did with Hamsho.

Late in his career, Fullmer had 3 consecutive brutal fights with the rising D. Tiger, and lost by UD (15), Drew (15), and Retired (8) vs Tiger. Many thought Fullmer won the 2nd fight, it was close. Fullmer was burned out in the 3rd fight. Fullmer's final 9 fights were against Giardello, Basilio, SRR twice, F.Fernandez, Paret (WW Champ), and D.Tiger 3 times.

Yes, you're right, but Fullmer would have nullified Duran nonetheless through sheer strength and roughness.
