The era Duran fought in has a slew of fighters that beat Floyd and Manny. Duran would punish Floyd at any weight. Duran had an old school mentality as did the Warriors whom competed in that era. That's a big advantage when every other measurable is equal.
I disagree. When Palomino lost to Benitez he said that Benitez knew which punch he was going to throw even before he did, and SRL said of all the guys he fought, Benitez was the hardest to land a clean shot against. Mayweather and Benitez are pretty much in the same ball park in terms of skills, but Benitez has more power than Mayweather and was about 2" taller than Mayweather.
This is the view of someone under 30. Benitez is better than Floyd in every part of the game once in the ring. Benitez was a known for being so lazy outside of the ring that is what cost him. At 22 he was a three weight world champion and not the bull****e baubles that we have today.
On the subject of Duran vs Mayweather , Floyds best chance is at lightweight, however Duran is the best lightweight of all time , super quick , great defense and hit like a rock. Lets put it this way Duran was able to move up two weight classes and keep up with Ray Leonard. Duran by UD , i dont think he drops Floyd but even by the half way stage Floyd is shaking his head and way behind on points.
Benitez's skillset was unbelievable. Floyd is most definitely NOT superior to Benitez in every aspect. Can't believe you even said that.
A focused Duran man-handles and KOs Mayweather quite easy without taking much punishment. An unprepared Duran just man handles Mayweather and possibly gets the KO.
What part of 'old school warrior' mentality is turning your back and saying 'no mas' because your frustrated?
The "I have fought everyone and anyone and if I quit in a fight I will be forgiven 10 fold before Mayweather, because Mayweather doesn't even want to fight Pacquiao, GGG whilst Duran fought arguably the best MW ever in Hagler, the best WW arguably in Leonard, and Champion Barkley and didn't act like a coward despite having an entire career at lightweight before moving up", that old school warrior mentallity.
you can`t take 1 fight out of over 100 to define anyone, including Duran. You have to look at their entire body of work. I believe that incident occurred in about fight 73 or so, and Mayweather has how many fights so far?
It's inexcusable none the less.considering what it takes to get in the top 10 atg p4p.no one who has done this should get in it
He's the only fighter who gets credit for losing, yes he fought hearns but he lost, yes he fought hagler but he lost, yes he beat Leonard but leonard proved emphatically twice in rematches who was the superior fighter.ricky Hatton only ever lost to 2 of the greatest fighters ever if u take out the senchenko fight which he shouldn't have had but gets slated, numerous fighters get the same but Duran was great because he fought and lost against the best
People have a habit to overrate "old" fighters. Lets be real Mayweather is by far more superior than Benitez. Benitez was great but not on the same level as Floyd. Hell even Leonard is a tad overrated. Hearns is the only welterweight I see knocking Floyd out because of his style. But Benitez and even Leonard I believe would lose to a prime Floyd
