So, two of the most relaxed boxers of all time, Roberto Duran and James Toney. Let's say that they fought at 160: a weight neither of them were entirely comfortable at. Duran, a natural lightweight bulked up and Toney, a natural super middle drained himself

How would this fight go if the Duran of the Barkley fight fought the Toney of the Nunn fight? Two brilliant, patient technicians rolling with each other's punches and launching sharp counter attacks.

Very unfair. Toney was a stylistic nightmare for Duran at 160. Get Toney down a few pounds (yeah, right), and someone would be in for a stoning...

I like Duran as a fighter but at 160 I don't like him for this match up.

I would only expect Toney to win a close but clear decision.

hmm, i'm curious, why would you say he's a stylistic nightmare? I always saw a fighter with movement and elusiveness as being his achilles heel. toney was slick, but had minimal movement even at his peak. this would be a wheelhouse kind of fight in my estimation which may lean towards toney at this weight but still close

Yiikes what a bad match up for Duran. I guess its a credit to him that he can be considered a force at this weight by some.

Toney is a cutie, by the mid 80s, Duran if motivated is beating a bomber (like Gimenez or Barkley), cuties are not on the radar, unless the money is good.:hey

  7. toney destroys him with counters this is another no mas match for duran

  8. toney by clear ud or late tko. james had great chin, he was faster, more skilled, he had better reflexes , he was a solid mw, duran was a natural lw, it was not his weight. toney was better mw, simple

Toney would make him look sillier than Joppy did.

At 160 I would have to go with Toney. Though p4p Toney is way below Duran.

Toney by Decision, although not nearly as lopsided as is being claimed. I don't think Toney is a bad matchup for Duran stylistically at all. In fact they were quite similar as stylists at the weight. Toney was just the fresher of the two and the more natural at the weight. For that I'd give him the edge.

Two of my all time favorites...but Duran at 160 was like Toney at HW..Toney would easily win.

As much as I like Duran,Toney would have the better of him at this weight. Would go the distance, though.
