Amazing that someone would wonder who would win between Duran and Ward. Ward was only popular because he was in wars. He was only in wars with "C" level guys. He was non competetive with the real talent and Duran was an all-time great, not just the real talent. Hed kick Wards ass from pillar to post and stop him EASILY.
i think ward is strong enough to go the distance as he is naturally bigger than duran and has heaps of heart but duran on a shut out win
A 140 lb Duran, on the way up to meet SRL, was one of the top fighters in the world. As hard as Ward tries, he get busted up. The ref takes mercy on Ward in round 8 and stops it.
Ward wasn't bigger than Duran. Duran was much stronger and his body frame was much better suited to higher weights. Ward just started at a higher weight, as Duran started off much younger while he was still growing into his body. Ward would have no advantages that would lead to this fight being even remotely competitive for long enough to last a decision, even over an exhibition 10 rounder. You guys are overrating him ridiculously.
This is mismatch..let me say that first and foremost. There is no doubting the toughness and chin of Ward..top notch..But I just cant picture his face holding up against round after round of Duran's accurate punching...not over 15..not over 12 and probably not over 10. I also cant see any doctor or corner man being sadistic enough to allow Roberto to dominate Ward for each minute of every round, round after round....It just wouldnt happen, Micky may have the durability to stay on his feet but he has nothing else to prevent this from being a very one-sided affair..You need more than a chin when the gulf in skill, speed and overall ability is this large. This is an alltime great who probably would have been near unbeatable at 140 against a fringe contender ESPN level fighter who gets opportunities, attention and praise simply because he is fun to watch. Ill let Micky finish this fight with a little dignity and say he gets stopped on cuts after 6.
Duran, the personification of Latin machismo, vs. Mick, the fighting Irishman. Duran stops him in a most entertaining bloodbath.
