Castro, and it's not even close. Post-Barkley it was his only quality win.

Does anyone feel the Castro win was in itself a better win then Barkley?

Sure, it wasn't for a title, but...

Personally I don't think so. Barkley was coming off a 3rd round stoppage of Thomas Hearns, and was the WBC middleweight champion. Duran was a huge underdog, and was sensational on the night. Castro's opposition in the run-up to Duran was not in the same league, and he beat Duran in a return not long after. Also, I think Barkley was a naturally bigger man than Castro.

I believe he fought and defeated Pat Lawlor, for an NBA Supermiddlweight Title, and fullfilled his promise to his fans. :happy :happy :happy

Duran beat him in the return after losing the first one. Castro won in Argentina, then lost in Panama. Hmmmm.....

I have the rematch. Duran looked terrible.

YES! It was against Castro down in Panama in the summer of '97...... That was Duran's best / biggest win after 1989..... HOWEVER! Duran got butt-reamed by the judges against Camacho in 1996... The 157 pounds that Duran weighed for Camacho was damn good for a vato age 45 yrs....:deal

    :-(
Roberto Duran also fought the naturally bigger Jorge Castro two times as a Super-Middleweight..... I NEVER liked it when Duran weighed over 160 pounds..... Above 160, Duran always look thick and rotund in the strike-zone area...... Roberto Duran at 165 was in good enough shape to move about in every day life, but not really in a 10 or 12 rd. fight.... Cheers........:-(

His best winning performance post-Barkley was Camacho I. That was a great performance. The last gasp of greatness by the jallopy that was 1990s Duran.

I loved the 1994 (June) WAR between Duran and Pazienza.....the first one. The Build up and hype was incredible, and they sold out the MGM Grand Garden Arena, Sean O' Grady and Al Albert provided the ringside play by play, and Duran looked incredible for 44 years old, and kicked Vinny's ass all over the ring. Knocked his ass down TWICE, and somehow the blind ***** ass judges still scored it for Vinny. But Duran was the PEOPLE's CHAMPION that night.

My man Duran did fade bad after round 9 against Paz in '94 out in Vegas......... Duran can't maintain his stamina above 160 pounds....:tired

    P.S.

Duran stunk against Paz in the '95 rematch:verysad
