Dan Rafael ‏@danrafaelespn 12h12 hours ago A frustrated Kathy Duva of @Main_Events on ridiculously difficult to finalize Andre Ward-Sullivan Barrera fight: "Believe it or not, (more) Dan Rafael ‏@danrafaelespn 12h12 hours ago we are still talking. Leonard-Hearns, Holyfield-Foreman and Whitaker-Chavez all put together didnt take this long to make!" @Main_Events How's this still not done? :rofl:rofl Poor Kathy, she has to deal with an ex HBO commentator and a rapper.
i dont doubt that ward/ROC arent easy to deal with.....ward has had problems...and been out of real ring action for some time....and you can tell ward is pretty stubborn that being said.....this might barreras only good shot at a payday and hbo....ward is a spoiler and you prob wont look good against ward....so im sure they want to milk every penny they can get for him too
Ward is ready to move and there is no way he is responsible for the delays. I blame Duva and very likely the inexperienced RocNation.
Yeah, I'm not sure either party is the "this fight's getting done over lunch" type. Put them together, and you get.....this.
You don't negotiate agreements in public. Usually the party that is complaining the loudest in public is the more intransigent one.
True. It's a figure of speech making reference that it's far quicker and easier to deal with some parties than others. :good
RN had no problems putting together Cotto Alvarez working with GBP. Duva, OTOH, has made these same complaints in the past about other promotional outfits. The problem here is DUVA not being able to grasp the concept that her side, more often than not, is the "B" side. Such is the case here...
i mean...i sort of sympathize with duva too small roster with nothing special other than kovalev...its gotta be tough to stay in business....gotta be tough to compete with the big boys
I'd be terrified of someone else poaching Kovalev if I were her. And she should be. Kovalev is the more accomplished pro between him and Golovkin. Duva complains about it...but didn't realize what she was really saying was that K2 is doing a better job building GGG than she's doing with Kovalev. People can joke about GGG fighting bums all they like, but in his downtime, he's always out there building his brand, connecting with fans, and trying to win over new ones. Sanchez and K2 wisely targeted the Latino markets hard. He goes to the UK. He goes to LA and Texas sporting functions. Now he's got a fanbase on both coasts that can sell out a venue. Meanwhile, Kovalev is still just a road warrior despite fighting his entire career in the states. GGG didn't even get here until 3 and a half years ago. Duva postures and complains too much for my tastes. Just having a knockout punching champion isn't enough- she's got to sell Kovalev harder, or risk losing him to a promoter that will.
