Who wins this matchup? I know this has been made before, but I want to express my unpopular opinion that Qawi stops Foster late reason I say this is for a number of reasons, Bob Foster literally said straight up on ‘best I faced’ that he didn’t like pressure fighters and I’m sure I don’t need to tell you what Qawi was, he would keep coming all night and he would be constantly getting under Foster’s devastating straight punches and left hook and Qawi would be tearing into his body and he would be there in his face all night making Foster uncomfortable and giving Foster no room to get his powerful straight punches off, Foster wasn’t bad on the inside, but Qawi was a helluva lot better, main reason I believe Qawi would beat Foster is Foster’s flat feet and Foster’s lack of movement feet and head, I don’t think that Qawi would struggle to get in on foster because Foster would not be moving his feet away as Qawi comes in and when Qawi is in he would be wearing Foster down and beating him inside because of Foster’s lack of head movement and Qawi has good head movement, he would be ducking under and hitting Foster and beating him when they trade and eventually stop the tiring Foster, I know Foster has a good jab, but his slow feet would let him down, also Qawi made a career of taking away people’s jabs and getting in, he would draw Foster jab by feinting or using his own jab to get Foster to throw his jab and commit and Qawi would be under it and getting in on him
I actually agree with you. Oddly enough, this is an example where I think the pressure fighter would prevail over the puncher. When I see Qawi, I think of Joe Frazier, and when I think of how Foster did against Frazier, I tend to think Qawi would do the same. But I'm forgetting something: Foster was the hardest puncher P4P in his division-ever(alright, imo). It still remains that although Foster had a great jab, that Qawi got inside better jabs than than one, and Foster would be useless inside. Maybe Foster would put Qawi down though with his legendary power. I think Qawi would beat Foster, but I think it would take a lot of see-sawing before he could finally wear Foster down. I'm gonna go with Qawi being extremely busy the first 3 rounds, since Foster liked to measure a fellow so much. By round 4, Foster would usually start doing something(as evidenced by three of his best knockouts). Foster might gain a knockdown or two over Qawi, although it seems improbable. Qawi puts Foster on the defensive again in the 8th, seeing as Foster had good stamina. If Qawi could keep Bob pinned on the ropes for a couple rounds, I have him stopping Bob in 10 or 11. No later than 12. I think this could actually be a really good war.
Qawi fought Leon Spinks and Saad Muhammad who can be pressure fighters, Leon Spinks was more of a pressure fighter than Saad Muhammad though
Good call. I would add Mike Rossman and Eddie Davis to an extent as well. Leon was a prototypical swarmer but he was pretty much shot by 86' when he fought Qawi.
Foster pulverizes him in the middle rounds. Qawi was a good, pressure fighter. But to me he wasn't in the same class as Foster or Moore. Or Michael Spinks, for that matter.
It’s easy to visualize Foster poleaxing Qawi. Like a Hearns/Duran kinda thing. Qawi would have a tougher road to victory, but it’s far from impossible. I think this fight would come down to one thing. A thing that has been argued on these forums for years: just how good is Foster really?
Interesting matchup although I dont think Dwight fights anything like Frazier. 2 completely different styles.
I think that a prime Bob Foster would box Dwight Muhammad Qwai much in the same way that Michael Spinks did in 1983. But Foster at some point, would land that vaunted left hook on Dwight's jaw time and time again. The result would be a TKO 12. Qwai is no Joe Frazier, or for that matter any of the heavyweights who defeated Foster. Qwai though very talented would have a very difficult time getting on the inside with Bob's popping left jab.
I think that Qawi will do pretty well for 3 or 4 rounds. He was a very good fighter. But,at some point, he will roll under a punch and, in throwing his counter, will turn into a hook. Fight over.
no, not exactly; Foster may have been just as destructive as Foreman in his own division, but had a different way of delivering his power
