I think that overall Qawi usually gets underated (not necessarily here, but overall) I think Gene Tunney is one of those fighters that you appreciate more as you find out more about him. Tunney had the dedication and will to make himself into a champion. Qawi would be slightly stronger, but it might be a reach to suggest that...Even if Tunney isn't quite as strong as Qawi, he would be strong enough to tie him up on the inside. Tunney has a good style to fight Qawi, he would have to chase Gene, and couldn't rely so much on countering. I like Tunney by decision.
Tunney was about 6'-1" in height with 76 inch reach. About the same size as MSpinks. Tunney by decision.
Dont know really.Dwight is a fighter ive been trying to learn a little more about know I can get on youtube. Its hard to say as the only footage ive seen of Tunney aint all that clear. If I was to go by what ive read over the years Id pick Tunney but from what ive seen clear on film Qawi.
Tunney should be able to control Qawi the way Spinks - especially at cruiser, where Tunney was arguably at his peak. Tunney was at least as skilled as Spinks and his skills were more polished, he was an even quicker and more fluid mover, and his right hand was plenty powerful. Tunney should be able to stay a step ahead of Qawi by staying on the move and using well-placed right hands to keep Qawi comparatively tamed.
I'll say one thing, I think the Qawi who gave Holy (green, but still excellent H2H) a razor-close brutal 15 round war in '86, would give Tunney a much tougher fight than the past-prime, severely rusted Dempsey. However, Tunney likely takes the decision by a comfortable margin.
