In the Saad Muhammad vs. Joe Calzaghe topic, a poster mentioned that they couldn't picture Calzaghe losing to someone like Qawi. IMO, that's seriously underrating Qawi, because he was a ferocious beast that only Spinks could handle in his prime. I don't know who would win at the moment, but it would definately be an interesting battle. Who do you think wins this one, with weight a non-issue?

But weight would be an issue, Qawi was a beast at 175 and Calzaghe hasn't fought there yet.

He's saying if Calzaghe was to automatically carry up his durability, chin, stamina and other factors to 175 and make it a non-issue.

On that note, Calzaghe, wide UD.

If Calzaghe doesn't carry it all up perfectly, then Qawi is not a bad pick.

Right, gotcha. I think it'd still take Qawi, too physically strong even allowing JC to carry his strenght up in weight.

That may be the case, because he's basically a cruiserweight. But I doubt Calzaghe would be doing his usual gameplan of boxing a little and then swarming.

He'd be solely on a defensive boxing gameplan and he can win that way because when he's doing this number, he's very hard to hit, up there with the best in that respect.

If he came at Qawi workrate blazing and inside fighting, maybe he'd get outmuscled and KTFO.

I think the prie qawi (2nd saad fight) would give joe a hell of a time. DMQ had a great work rate and stamina for such a strong fire plug. Let's not forget that a young and hungry (albeit inexperienced) Holyfield had a hell of time with avery old, 2nd time around Qawi. And that was at cruiserweight, where the 5'7" Qawi was much slowed down. Qawi was still coming on strong in the 15th round and absorbed a lot of terrible shots from a man who even at 190 hit many times harder than Joe on his best day. Joe had trouble with some other strong rugged guys. That said, I admire Joes speed and skill and think it would be a pick 'em fight, though I'd shade towards Qawi.

I loved Qawi's defensive skills and he was able to hurt heavyweights, he would be too much for Calzaghe.

Dwight way too much for Calzaghe. And the fight would had to have been at 175. Squatty Qawi had great defense and tremendous physical strength. He would have ran the pride of Wales right out of the ring, in devastating fashion. Qawi beat some real badasses back in the day and he was a true BMF.:smoke :smoke

Qawi basically destroyed all Lightheavies he faced except for Spinks who had the firepower and boxing skills to win a decision.

We will see what Joe looks like at Lightheavy soon.

Qawi could care less have many punches Joe throws at him..he only respects power.

I can never understand whether the Brits do this for a stir, or for real.

I hope for a stir, either way.

You don't think Mike Spinks or light heavy Moorer could be him?
