Lets say Joe comes in at 205, his best weight, and Qawi comes in as a cruiserweight at 190. I'm mostly curious how this plays out... You could potentially say Qawi accomplished more against Foreman than Frazier, strangly.
Qawi was a small version of a poor man's Frazier. The advantages he has over some opponents goes away here, probably goes 7 maybe 8 rounds. Joe was a slow starter and Qawi was tough. And Foreman was only a few fights into his comeback after a 10 year absence from the ring, he was at his absolute peak against Frazier.
Not sure about a poor man's Frazier. Qawi was better than Frazier at certain aspects, such as counter-punching. Frazier had pretty good head movement, but he couldn't counter out of it the way Qawi could. And Qawi was an absolutely buzzsaw at LHW.
Qawi was the superior counterpuncher, but generally fought similar to Frazier. A buzzsaw at LHW yes, but when Frazier actually got "Smokin" he was a buzzsaw at heavy. He was like a machine. Maybe a poor man's version was a bit harsh, but he was quite similar.
Yes I have. Joe was relentless. Chuvalo got hurt badly before the ref stopped it and he walked away, very telling sight to watch. I liked the performance against Ellis as well. One of the best knockouts I've ever seen.
Qwawi was durable and had a solid defense but Frazier brought in the heavier guns....Frazier by stop later
The guy who backs up loses and I think that would be Qawi. It would be kind of surreal watching these two guys fight. I'll say Frazier stops him in 9.
A prime Qwai was a great fighter but the 205 pound, 1968-71 version of Joe Frazier would have been a terrible match up for him ... Frazier by KO in five ..
