Qawi would outwork him. IM picking the guy with a superior, effective workrate over the guy who was lazy

Toney at light-heavy struggled to clearly distinguish himself in terms of level with Montell Griffin.

He's going to get soundly outworked by Qawi.

Qawi is the type of fighter who's all wrong for Toney. Constantly pressurising, throws lots of punches and won't let him fight at his own pace. Plus he accomplished far more than Toney ever did at light-heavy or cruiser. Qawi UD.

This pretty much sums it up.

Toney was not that good at lhw. Qawi outworks him to score ud

I actually disagree with this statement. Toney always did good with fighters who came forward to him(especially when in decent shape). Delgado, Jirov, Aspieli, Wolf etc. Qawi would be coming right into Toney giving him counter punching opportunities but unlike some of those come forward fighters Toney faced Qawi also had tremendous skills and craft while coming forward. Like Toney he used many old school defensive and offensive tricks. Either way I feel if you walk into Toney's range you're gonna take some good counter shots it just a matter of whether you can give more punches of you're own and avoid some of whats coming back. I think Qawi's good jab coming forward would be a good weapon against Toney unless Toney is able to time and counter it. I also see Qawi unleashing good flurries on Toney who wouldn't take to many of the shots clearly but some of them would land and score its just a matter of what Toney comes back with. One of Toney's problems was he is so comfortable in the ring and so sound defensively that he always feels in control. I think this cost him against Griffin even though I feel he won both fights handily he probably could've done a little bit more in both of them had he felt a little urgency. This is a very tough match up to pick a winner in for me its a pick em fight just depends on which fighter has a better night. Either Qawi out works Toney and uses his defense coming forward well enough to not get chewed up by Toney's counter punches, or Toney is able to counter effectively enough on the inside to get the win. Either way I think this fight goes the distance whether its 12 rounds, 15 rounds or 20 rounds both guys in their primes would not be stopped.

Closer fight at cruiser. At light heavyweight Toney was wank. Qawi on points.

Qawi at 175 was maybe the most underated fighter ever, he had great legs. He was similar to Montel Griffin who Toney couldn't do anything with.

Think about it this way what is Tony been more susceptible to? And the overhand right which was Qawis greatest weapons once on the inside, we would've been out jabbing Toney and landing in over hand right.

Your knowledge seems to be very limited. Most people think that Toney beat Griffin twice (according to polls and HBO scorecards). Toney-Griffin II was voted the worst decision by the RING in 1996.

    As for the Quawi matchup:

At 175: Quawi (via close decision)

Quawi would have outworked Toney at 175, but still the fight would be very close and even somewhat controversial.

At 190: Toney (via close decison)

At 190, Quawi, was less slick and less active. Toney by decison in a competitive fight.

Keepi in mind that Quawi was himself very slick and Toney would have a harder time landing his counters than usual.

    That is just nonsense.
Toney was the master at avoiding right hand. Rolling , slippingm, ducking the right hand....he was the best at it in the last 25 years.
