But if I do remember correctly, you acknowleged in a previous thread that you have never boxed in competition before. Anyway, I do not even have a problem with that, just brought that up cause you started with insults. Getting back to the topic, I really do not think the few picks you made helped your case. I am going to leave it at that then.
You are right that Spinks was not almost knocked out as I claim upon review, but he did spend from the middle of round 11 onwards basically just waddling around getting punched on while occasionally flicking his jab out there (until he got a second wind in round 15). An awesome fight is subjective, I liked it a lot because Spinks showed his grit, power, speed and craft and Qawi showed his iron will to win and it was a tense fight between great fighters. Great style clash and an interesting close fight If you didn't like it, that's your opinion. A rematch was booked. I'm not sure if Qawi actually had pneumonia because I was not his doctor. He did look a little slower than normal but he took a fair bit of punishment early. I think Spinks' power surprised Qawi and it took Dwight time to get his rhythm going because Spinks fought excellently. Qawi did not expect Spinks to be able to hurt him, and I think Spinks' power was really a big factor in this fight. The right hand you noticed early in the first is an astute observation and I agree, that punch (vid below) set the tone and had Qawi thinking. This content is protected Spinks was beating Qawi down early but Dwight came back, had Spinks rolling around in round 8 (Qawi kept stepping on Spinks' foot and punching him), had him running outright in rounds 12, 13, and 14. I do think Spinks got clipped and hurt in round 11 (below). Spinks fought back hard immediately but needed the rest of 11, 12, 13, and 14 to get it together fully. This content is protected High res fight, rounds This content is protected Thread related: I think the thread fight is better in other divisions for Toney as others have mentioned btw: Qawi (Holyfield I/L. Spinks) vs. Toney (Jirov) CW: Super close fight, Toney was a monster on the inside this night. Qawi still wins for me. Toney got hit so much vs. Jirov, Qawi would hurt him. Qawi (Foreman) vs. Toney (Ruiz) HW: James wins a UD pretty easily even though James was 37 and Dwight 35 I think James had way more left at this point. What is the LHW version of Toney to beat Qawi? With Qawi, we are talking about someone who stopped Miracle Matt twice, went to battle with Michael Spinks, and had a legendary destruction of Mike Rossman. Toney never had a name as good as any of them on his LHW resume. His run between 168 outside of Barkley until he got up to CW was ass on a level worse than Roycott by a lot. The best LHW Toney ever beat was Prince Charles Williams and that was at 168. Toney had 8 years between 1995-2003 of middling performances before the Jirov fight resurrected his career and got him back in the mix. Toney was fat, lazy, phoned it in a lot, and has no quality performances at LHW to suggest he could do anything vs. Qawi. And to the person who suggested as soon as he leaves 168, Toney could beat Qawi, that's what he tried to do and lost to Griffin.
