Dwyer: Current Toney Would Do Better Against Wlad Than He Did Against Lebedev

It would be one thing if Toney still had something useful in his offensive arsenal. A lot of defensive boxers as they age and lose their legs (along with reflexes and timing) change their style to adapt to their physical limitations and become more scrappy. (see Cory Spinks slugging it out with Phillips and Latimore, it's starting to happen with PBF standing in the pocket more, etc.)

The thing is, he doesn't have that big a punch at CW or HW. He isn't feather fisted at the weights as many seem to think...but he doesn't have any one punch that can be a big difference-maker and turn a fight around against anyone with even remotely high resistance. Those right hands he was flopping up from his hip against Lebedev? Gutting as it is to say, that's his BEST weapon right now. His jab is pitiful. He seems to have forgotten what hooks, uppercuts, and body shots are for the most part. His reach has always been a deficiency, but he made up for it with speed and timing that have just badly eroded now.

He'll almost never have height or reach advantages over a cruiser or heavy. He'll sometimes have an edge in hand speed, but not always. Hardly ever in sheer power. Accuracy? Honestly his is among the very worst right now...how the mighty have fallen.

No defense and no offense really doesn't leave a fighter left with much.

I'd be more inclined to wish for him to retire, since it would be heartbreaking to see him lose to regional-grade talent. It was bad enough seeing him get shut out by a relatively mediocre (for world-class) guy like Lebedev who's top 5 in a ****-weak division.

Toney has no coordination whatsoever no motor skills anymore hes damaged hes way to late with everthing he does, he could possibly make it some rounds but wouldn't come close to win a single second in such a fight

 

Its kinda painful to say but i think Jack might be a better boxing analyst than Dwyer nowadays.
That said i think both should stop watching and commentating on boxing and just follow high school basketball.
