I have Margo, Maidana, Martinez and Hopkins all down on a £10 bet. He picked them all. High correct ratio.

    This is a real possibility.

And I think what gives it some extra credibility is the fact that Margarito has a tendency to come out a bit cold in the early rounds before getting warmed up...this is a bad idea against Pacquiao who gets into his rhythm by the second round. Pacquiao is NOT the kind of fighter who you sit and wait on...Margarito might find himself getting knocked down in this fight simply because he doesn't know what to do about the punches coming at him, similar to how DLH was.

One thing people don't realize often is that the move for Pac from 135 to 147 is a very calculated one...he has a great chin that can take these guys punches...but up at 147...these fighters are simply unprepared for someone as fast and unconventional as Pac, especially these guys who are flat-footed like Margarito and Clottey. This was in contrast to fighting guys like JMM and Morales, who will ALWAYS give Pac problems because while they can't knock him out, they are fast enough to catch him and evade his punches.

It will be interesting how Margarito weathers the storm early on.

Yup, lots of good additional points.

What will be interesting is to see if Pacquiao tries to stay in the phone booth and outwork Margarito. If he elects to give Margarito room he's asking for trouble just like Cotto did.

Cotto hit Margarito with numerous flush shots. The problem though is that they were all telegraphed. Margarito anticipates getting hit so he does see these punches coming. He just prepares for them and then tries to catch his opponent resetting. A straight right coming from Cotto goes right down the pipe and Margarito sees it. A left counter coming from Pacquiao may slip under the guard and not be seen. Just like the ko punch Bute hit Andrade with.

It seems unlikely to me that Margarito will see everything coming from Pacquiao. Nobody else has to date. One short left set the Cotto fight and ended the Hatton fight. I have to believe a series of short lefts will set the Margarito fight up for a knockout because Margarito will not shell up like Cotto and DLH did. Unlike Pacquiao, Margarito can not fight at all going backwards. He doesn't have the footwork for it.

:good Good point about him going backwards. Margarito was totally lost against Mosley when he was getting pushed back. And Pac, with all his pivoting and such, is likely to keep Margarito from being able to push him backwards or really plant his feet at all.

Umm, Ricky Hatton? In reality, Margo's style is made for Pacquiao. Anybody who comes forward and wants to throw a lot of punches will get eaten up by Manny. The difference here is that Margo has a huge size advantage and he's much taller and rangier. Plus he's got one of the best chins around. So it makes this fight a lot more unpredictable.

Is the ring size 24 by 24? Someone posted a video where they were building the ring for Clottey-Pac and the guy said the ring was 24 by 24. If it's the same size, it's big advantage for Pac and I doubt Margo will be able to keep Pac against the ropes.

Some great points in here, really enjoyed reading this thread.

I'm in agreement with the camp that thinks that Pac is just too fast. The speed disparity is immense, and I don't think the size difference will matter all that much once the bell rings.

Yeah, I thought the same thing, Hatton's pretty quick footed and that's how he was able to catch Pac against the ropes, I don't think Margo's fast footed enough to do the same things Hatton was able to do.

Still, Pac will have to be in top form Stamina-wise if he wants to keep avoiding getting trapped by Margo.

Chavez too was slow compared to Meldrick Taylor; yet he systematically broke him down over the distance.

Margarito can time people if they decide to keep away; his whole game is based on catching up with you while you believe you're out of range. He has octopus-like arms and can vary his attacks to the body or use uppercuts. As soon as Manny stops moving he will be in danger.

I'm not sure I agree with Dwyer on the point he makes at the 9:00 mark. Pacquiao can't re-establish his lead foot (right) whilst backing off? :huh

He seemed to have done it pretty well here at the 2:40 mark whilst back away from Hatton:

Pacquiao figured out the jab. Cotto would eat a left everytime he threw it; hence the reason he abandoned it.

Yes, i forgot Hatton ; but Ricky liked to lead with his face and hands down; Margo at least protects himself with a high guard.

You're forgetting the range; Margarito can hit Pac while being himself out of harms way.
And Pac isn't a defense wizard either.
