Very shortly. Daniel Dawson being interviewed now. He's got a very thick Aussie accent but seems pleasant enough. He says that Dzinziruk has an amateur style that's been successful for him so far, but that he has too much lateral movement and good reflexes and a good jab that will see him to victory.
I hope so mate....but Surgiy has loads of skill and speed....I guess us aussies are hoping that the lay off for Dzinziruk will hurt him and Dan can catch him before he gets a chance to get the ring rust off.
Round 1 Dawson opens with a hook, blocked. Dawson holds out his jab hand to keep Dzinziruk at bay and SD simply shoots a quick shot to the body beneath it. Dawson leads with hooks upstairs and rights to the body. They cancel out each other's jab attempts, neither fully extending it before they slap together. Dzinziruk jabbing over the gloves of Dawson. Dawson searching for angles on the taller opponent. Both punching from mid-range. Both defending fairly well. Dawson jumps in and punches the forearms of Dzinziruk, gets turned, and countered. Double jab from Dawson chasing Dzinziruk across the ring, and a straight right to the body misses. Right jab from Dzinziruk keeping Dawson honest. 10-9 Dzinziruk
He'd better make sure all his looks at Dzinziruk are through binoculars. He'd be badly embarrassed by anyone with a bit of boxing skill, let alone a lot.
Round 2 Dzinziruk (man that name sucks to spell) is controlling the pace and the distance with his jab. The very insightful Antonio Tarver says of the Dzinziruk jab "snapping the way he turns it over, like a punch almost..." :blood Dawson is mostly patient, trying not to waste any movement, and picking his shots, but Dzinziruk is still able to roll away from them and counter with stiff jabs. This is looking a lot like a miniature version of a Wladimir Klitschko title defense. 20-18 Dzinziruk
Round 3 Dzinziruk jabbing with equal sharpness on all planes - stomach, chest, chin, between the eyes. Dawson is holding out his left forearm to try and parry the jab and set up a power punch for himself, but he's just not fast enough to get inside before Dzinziruk can get out of range. Dzinziruk not giving up too much ground, though - mostly picking Dawson apart from a stationary position. Dawson trying to fight awkwardly, in and out of a crouch, throwing from odd positions, circling and halting. Dzinziruk isn't blinking, and just keeps firing and landing the jab with aplomb. 30-27 Dzinziruk
Round 4 Dzinziruk unexpectedly opens with an uppercut. He is still jabbing like a drum machine, on cue every couple of seconds, but in between he is banging Dawson down low with a quick uppercut. Dawson bats at him with a home run right hand, and then another. Dzinziruk springing away with his toes and then reasserting his jab once at a comfortable distance. Dawson still trying the thing with his forearm turned over and held out to shield against the jab. Dzinziruk just waits for him to put it down or downjabs over it, using his greater height and reach. Dawson bulls his way inside and eats several shots from his host, then brings his fist up vertically from his own chest into the bottom of Dzinziruk's chin. Dzinziruk isn't bothered. 40-36 Sergiy Dzinziruk
i see angulo sitting ringside he and dzinziruk have the same promoter in gary shaw anybody think gary will put the two of them together ?
Oh - that reminds me. Please don't spoil the Ngoudjo-Diaz result for me in this thread; I will be watching a recording of it after this. That's all I ask in exchange for the RBR. Thanks everybody.
Round 5 Dzinziruk's jab is somewhere in between Quartey's and Klitschko's. In case you need to be told - that is a very large compliment. Dawson doesn't have a bad jab of his own, it's just nowhere near as quick and he's being beaten to the punch. He prefers to hold that arm out, twisted to one side to try and swat Dzinziruk's jab away, and try to time a power punch. The problem facing him is Dzinziruk's ring (distance) awareness, and excellent defense. When Dawson is able to get inside and try to rough Dzinziruk up, he simply gets grabbed and turned away by Dzinziruk's long arms. Both have good footwork and the distance between them doesn't change much throughout the round, and neither is ever squared up out of position from the other. 50-45 Dzinziruk
Deal. I was just watching that one and was about to turn off television. Did a circle check of channels and found this one.
Round 6 Dzinziruk beginning to brave an equally hard, straight, and fast left hand behind the success of his right jab. Dawson is throwing a bit wild now, looping his fists towards Dzinziruk's chin but falling short. Dzinziruk controlling the clinches when Dawson is able to sneak in close enough to force one - folding his strong and sinewy arms up to clasp onto Dawson and keep him immobile. A slow Dawson jab is countered by a Dzinziruk lead left. Dzinziruk then hooks Dawson in the kisser off a quick double jab. It was almost fast enough to be a triple jab - but the last punch was a textbook hook. This is crazy skill we're seeing. Dawson is not a bad fighter - he's just getting outclassed by a very very good one. 60-54
