Round 7 Dzinziruk's jabs landing loudly on the face of Dawson (sounding a bit like the "ten second warning" mat-slaps - in the same meter and volume...) Dzinziruk's legs are still fresh as he continues to work the southpaw jab to great effect. Dawson is keeping his hands up and not taking any stupid chances but is unable to get much off. He pushes a few jabs into the face of Dzinziruk that barely graze; Dzinziruk doesn't bother moving his head. Tarver is getting on Dzinziruk for not pushing for a KO since he's dominating. Farhood says that he doesn't mind watching technical mastery. These guys are much more passive aggressive in their arguments than the HBO team(s). 70-63 Dzinziruk.
They're speaking Ukrainian (?)...not sure. Dawson's corner implores him to change it up as he's losing.
Round 8 Dzinziruk bouncing on his toes, confident. He is now pressing forward with the jab rather than simply inviting Dawson in. Dzinziruk now mixing in more left hands. Dzinziruk lands a three punch combination but Dawson is able to loop a slow counter hook square onto his tucked chin. Dzinziruk getting a bit more playful, punching from a slew of angles. The uppercut to the body returns to Dzinziruk's arsenal. Dawson pawing with the jab cautiously. Dawson stumbles...but it's just a momentary balance issue, his legs are still there. 80-72 Dzinziruk
Round 9 Dzinziruk jabs, then hits a jab-cross-right hook combination before stepping away. Dawson clips him with a looping counter on the way out. That's the story of the fight at this point - Dzinziruk landing several for every one of Dawson's in addition to landing the harder, cleaner and more meaningful shots. Dzinziruk now comfortable closing range a bit more and simply popping his jab with shorter extension, tapping it against Dawson's temple behind his protective glove. Dawson sucking air and trying to keep covered up, eats a hook followed by a left uppercut. They trade uppercuts on the inside. Dawson getting a bit bloodied. 90-81 Dzinziruk
His whole WBO title run has been against decent enough opposition (including Joel Julio and Daniel Santos) compared to a lot of beltholders, but this is his first time defending it outside Germany.
This fight is going exactly how i thought it would go, but if sergei wants america to embrace him and want to see him again he cannot be so passive and go for the kill. He's skilled as all get out, but he just isn't a charasmatic fighter. One for the purist though.
Round 10 Left hands starting to chop up Dawson's face. Dzinziruk slowing his jab down a bit now (which makes it still pretty fast), turning it over and almost clubbing with it. A Dzinziruk jabs knocks Dawson off balance for just a moment. Dawson eating leather nonstop and the ref stops it.
I remember when I first saw him vs Santos back in 05 that only Winky Wright has a better jab then him right now. Good to see he still has it. He's clearly the man to beat at 154(if Martinez stay at 160).
