Let me introduce Zbigniew Pietrzykowski to you, he is a proven Euro Elite fighter, European gold medalist. Great left hand, precise and powerful, good movement and slick defense. Rome, 1960 He is about to fight a young american prospect Cassius Clay. Some belive Clay is a bit special, he has only one loss(avanged). Years later Pietrzykowski remembers how he felt before the fight: "The fight was for high stakes, the highest in amatour boxing: the olympic gold. During the weigh-in I comapred him to the heavyweight fighters and thought that physically he is more impressive than any of them. I knew it will be a tough fight" Here is the fight, I recomend you watch it in 720p (you change it in the downright corner), full screen this mother****er and enjoy: [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O8eqAve3sZw[/ame] (E.E. advice: dont pay atention to the commentator, he is very biased and ****, recorded post fight most likely) Lets give voice back to Pietrzykowski: "Clay was the best boxer I ever fought...alongside Laszlo Papp. (he adds later). He was incredibly versitile. Taller and younger than me. He was dictating the pace of the fight, before the third round I looked at him and he was fresh, I was getting tired, towards the end I was completely gassed. I was not battered or demolished, but lost that third round badly, he (Clay) went on to become an all time great." I myself feel that the fight was very close, I dont have a problem with Ali winning, but it was not a one sided walk in the park as some Americans claim. Having said that, beating prime Pietrzykowski at such young age is still a great achivment and you can already see Ali had great physical atribiutes, reflexes, relentlessnes, instinct of a true fighter. Shame America does not produce athletes like Ali anymore. Pietrzykowski was also a great fighter, he won 4 European golds and 3 olympic medals in total. As I recall, Pietrzykowski took the first. Second round was close, with Clay coming on at the end, and then the future Ali enjoyed a big third round. I'd be inclined to give Clay the edge, but his opponent did indeed prove himself to be a solid fighter, and performed well in defeat.
Well, I heard Pietrzykowski had stamina problems throughout his career. I think that in 1960 he was more skilled than Ali, but Clay was better physically: bigger, faster, better stamina. During my additional research, I found a little gem about Pietrzykowski, a very recent interview/feature with him, includig archive fight footage and photos! Everything in English for you unedcated mono-lingiustic Americans, no excuse not to watch it! He is completely useless. He should go back to playing handball instead of lying about boxing, that's what he is doing in that clip- blatantly lying, not commentating (calling this **** commentary would be an insult to actual commentators). If people on this forum gain their "knowledge" from "experts" like him...well, lets just say that would explain one or two things.
