Eamonn Magee-what a guy!

Is that what really happened IrishBC ??

I was reading in the General a while back that he started on that lad who posts as 'Healy' for looking at him at a bar at an awards evening or something along those lines. Healy is 15 or of a similiar age :-(

 

I heard from more than one reliable source that this happened. The guy is an asbsolute ****in ****. Had major talent, but didnt look after himself and was a dickhead anyway, so who gives a **** if his career went down the tube.

He's only mildly famous for flooring Ricky Hatton.

na come on lads he was a very talented boxer. he was more naturally able than a lot of irish fighters but never took it seriously, took short cuts, got himself into trouble and rarely came fully fit to a fight. had he gone to the states and sorted himself out he could have been very good. thats boxing wise. non boxing wise he got himself shot by the IRA but to be fair he was far from the only one to get 'punished' in this way, when he got jumped i believe it started over his children playing with someone elses children and for this assault its innocent until proven guilty. it was a aggravated assault and while that sounds bad the definition of assault widely varies so all we can do is wait for to trial to find out the truth imo

 

A good friend of mine was one of Magee's early opponents - says he is one ridiculously tough mofo... that is all.

Well im 21, but there is some truth to the story that i met Magee and felt a bit uncomfortable when he made a remark or two.

I was there at the afterparty of the Dunne Cordoba fight, my mate Doug(doug.ie) was talking to Eamon and i approached hoping to get in on the chat i suppose. I traveled to Dublin with Doug and figured it would be ok to joined the convo, Eamon may have had a few on him and didnt know i was with Doug. He did make a remark or two as i say, i laughed it off, tried to make sure i didnt say anything wrong in his eyes.

Had i being someone else i could have being offended and made a fuss but there was no need

It ended harmless enough, a few jokes, threaded water carefully, a bit of messing to try defuse any situation, but i know id be careful not to wind him up.:good

Earlier in the night i got a photo with him and Dougs son.

Only thing I can think of is if Eamonn was boozing, then naturally he started acting more of a **** as the night went on, & if he was drunk I wouldnt hold it against him too much. If the guy was nice to you when he was sober, then thats the real Eamonn Magee.

Im not making excuses for him, but as a fellow drinker myself... His behaviour sounds all too familiar. Nive guy when sober, ******* when drunk.
Theres a reason why they call it the 'demon' drink...

 

Im sure he is a sound chap, i dont know him.

Would only say id not wind him up or anything if he is drinking.

A couple of my mates met Scott Harrison, some years back. It was at some Irish music festival type thing. I think it was a little after the McCullough fight. Anyway, the lads went up to him to shake his hand and congratulate him, but he'd obviously had a few too many and basically told them to **** off. Now, in a certain sense, if that was me I'd be pissed off. But he's only human and we all act like complete ****s when we've had too much to drink. So be it Magee, Harrison or anyone else, I wouldn't judge them on what they did when drunk.

 

speak for yourselves. i dont act like a complete **** when im pissed. generally the arseholes drunk have arseholish tendencies when sober too, they just hide them a little better.

 

Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow. But someday, if you keep getting pissed? You will act like an arsehole. I should know, I used to be a happy drunk. The booze does something to you as you get older though, your brain starts reacting to it differently & WHAM! You do a Magee/Harrison, & you wake up the next day & cant believe it.

You better believe though, cos thats the game of russian roulette you play when you get too drunk too often. Five out of six times you are OK, but one wrong spin of the barrell, & BANG. You act out of character, out of control & you have to live with do-gooders like yourself saying "he acted like an *******? He must have had ******* tendancies anyway & just hid 'em well when sober" for the rest of your life, basing your whole personality on one night when you drank too much vodka, forgot what your own name was and told anyone who came near you to '**** off!'

If it ever happens to you, you will think back & say to yourself "You know, I wish I took heed of the message Dunky brought, in other words, the lesson he tought"
