Wouldn’t say I know loads about him but good boxer, tricky, decent power. Not great insight!

I first remember him really from fighting Shea neary, cheering for neary being a scouser and thinking he’d done enough to beat Magee

Definitely underachieved but wouldn't say he'd have gone on to be an ATG or anything. Seconded on his book, one of the better boxing biographies, especially if the Troubles / NI history interests you at all.

Agree it's a very good book, warts and all very open about his alcohol issues.

Doubt he ever really fought at his full potential due to his own demons but a talented tricky southpaw, high end European level imo.

Good fighter, hard as nails. Definitely not one to underestimate. I was lucky enough to be ringside at the MEN arena when he fought Ricky Hatton. As already said, he gave Ricky some trouble, and the fans great entertainment. I remember thinking when he climbed into the ring how confident he looked. Away from home and in the Hatton fortress, not fazed at all, he may as well have been in his back yard. I will be buying his book, for sure.

Magee was nails hard going into Hatton's back yard didn't bother him one bit, guy that thrived off it tbh abrasive personality by nature it would seem and when interviewed on TV or print he always came accross that way.

@Cookiedough His book doesn't sugarcoat much about his life he upset a lot of people close and not so close in his life outside the ring.

Very talented amateur and good solid European maybe fringe world level fighter. He wasn't fit enough and dedicated to go all the way.

His book is an excellent read, very mixed troubled character.
