Earl Hargrove vs Frank Fletcher ?

Winner or loser for that matter takes on Charles Brewer.

I think the southpaw aggressive style of the animal is not something a guy like Hargrove solves. Or it would take him so long to solve him the damage would have been done and he'd have lost his power. And w/o power, what else does Hargrove have in his set of tools?

 

Fletcher by 8th round stoppage. Be a good fight up til that point, though.

Absolute mayhem but I see Fletcher winning by stoppage.

 

Both guys could hit. But I think Fletcher was a bit more durable. Also had that southpaw style and not sure how well Hargrove did against that. Earl’s record had better looking numbers but I think Frank beat some better fighters too.

 

Fletcher has more intangibles and is more proven and reliable tho he burned only briefly.

 

Frank was a legit gunslinging warrior who went toe to toe with many of the best of his day. He came up short sometimes, but you had to be wiling to dig deep and wade through some hell to beat him.

Hargrove, frankly, was very protected. He put together an impressive-on-paper KO streak but managed to avoid most every challenge around in his time, weight and stomping grounds — and there were plenty of challenges there had he/his management sought them out. Look at the first 20-odd fights of his career and it’s a bunch of guys who might as well have had names like Kenny Breathe, Izzy There, Dusty Trunks and Chip Panzee.

Heck, his first 13 fights were against guys with a collective 1-20-4 record … and it would be worse had not half or more of them been making their debut. I gather some of them were found at the local bus stop.

I’m sure he had a bit of pop but it became apparent after he stepped up that he didn’t have the sturdiest set of whiskers — almost all of his losses are by KO, and enough against less-than-excellent competition to draw some conclusions.

Frank takes a few big shots on the way to winning by KO 3 or so.

 

Hargrove has a puncher’s chance, especially early on, but I think Fletcher would outwork him and Earl would eventually fold. Fun while it lasts though.

If you were trying to describe to a casual fan of what a TV FIGHTER is, Frank Fletcher was that always in exciting fights win or lose.

To think if he had of got past Wilford Scypion he would of got a shot at the middleweight title and Marvin Hagler, wouldn't of ended well for The Animal, but he would of gone in with a gunslingers mentality.

Frank wasn't in the same league as Magic Matthew the Philly legend LHW, but that area sure produced some very exciting crowd pleasers that era.

 

Earl Hargrove got stopped by Mark Medal in 5 rounds. A weight drained Hearns punished dropped and stopped Medal in 8 rounds. Just for reference.

 

I've never seen Hargrove fight, which fights are his most entertaining?
