Walls KOd Rex Layne twice. Once in the first round and the 2nd time in the 6th round . He was about 6'2 and 205 pounds, a larger sized heavyweight for the 1950s. He was also known as a puncher and was seriously being considered as an opponent for Rocky Marciano. Had they fought, who wins?
He lost to some very mediocre fighters, and Layne was never the same after getting six teeth knocked out by Marciano. I think the Rock wins this one pretty easily.
Earl Walls was only 190-195 in his prime and would absolutely get destroyed by marciano, whom favored fighting taller opponents. Walls did not have the pedigree to hang with Marciano in the slightest, that Layne that he beat was already a far lesser version than what fought Marciano
Earl Walls also known to some as "The Windsor Walloper" was a smooth, intelligent boxer with a terrific punch in either hand. He made a name for himself with a 90-second knockout of top contender Rex Layne. In 1954 and 1955 there was talk of a match with Rocky Marciano for the world championship but Marciano's promoter was uninterested. Walls was the Canadian Heavyweight Champion when he retired to become a successful real estate agent in the late 1950s boom. Walls passed away while playing poker at a charity Casino in Toronto, December 13, 1996. [The Deseret News] Sept 21, 1953 - A Las Vegas boxing syndicate headed by Herman Prujan offered Marciano $250,000 to meet Earl Walls in January of the next year.
Walls would have been a viable challenger for Marciano, but realistically he woudl not have been the favorite, and rightly so.
