Earl Walls was quite deserving of a shot at Marciano's title for a while, and would have posed a real threat because he really could punch.

from february 1953 until January of 1954 Rex Layne had 6 fights, he only won 1 of those 6 fights, losing 5 times and being stopped in 3 of them- he was KO'd by Marciano in 1951 so IMO he past his best. I am not sure if you are 12 years old or just mentally challenged but I sense a disrespect in your post. I usually do not answer to computer tough guys with big typing fingers ......learn to respect people you cannot see

The delusions on this site grow daily…the way some of you think you’d think Rocky was just some Joe Schmoe from a pizza place who never boxed before and went to the senior citizen center to film himself beating ex champs butt. Earl Wall wasn’t a thought…to anyone….at all. He at no point deserves a shot.

I'm not sure how you interpreted my post as disparaging or underrating Marciano.

Sorry I’m used to completely irrational Marciano takes…some will say or make up whatever fantasy they want to try and bring the man down a peg. If it’s your honest belief Walls deserved a shot I will just respectfully disagree. He was on the way up but not there yet imo. Nor did we see anything that would constitute a threat imo. But to each their own

Well I said he was "quite deserving". He wasn't underserving. He had a good spell and he punched hard. He posed a real enough threat to be viable, as did all of Marciano's contenders at the time. To be fair, there's no harm in giving historical boxers like Earl Walls some credit.

Marciano turned down a $250K offer to face him, put together by a boxing syndicate in Las Vegas.

That’s the equivalent of $3M in today’s money.

Why would Rocky walk away from that kind of money to fight someone who wasn’t even a thought?

Read several biographies countless news articles. Watched countless documentaries and fights about the man. Never once was this man’s name ever mentioned. Would be like saying Usyk is avoiding Hrgovic because some promoter offered the fight. Man seemed an ok contender but he wasn’t a threat. Marciano was also offered fights with Baker, Nino, Satterfield, and a dozen other HWs etc. Doesn’t mean they were a threat to the title. He fought the best of the day with the only slight question mark being Nino.
