what does everyone think about Mauro Mina, Eddie Cotton, Gregorio Peralta, Gustav Scholz, Giulio Rinaldi, Wayne Thornton, Allen Thomas Some underrated guys there Not to mention the studs Archie Moore, Harold Johnson, Jose Torres, Willie Pastrano, and a young Bob Foster
By all accounts Mina was a bit special ,didn't he retire with eye trouble? Rinaldi's claim to fame ,as I recall was beating Archie Moore in an over the weight match.I have the B I magazine headed The Kid Who licked Archie Moore! Peralta was a very cagey ,ring wise guy and ultra durable.I've always thought a young George Foreman gets an unfair amount of stick for Goyo going the distance in their first fight .Look up who Peralta went the distance with, even as an aging veteran!Cotton was a slick fighter. Thornton seemed to have been a fixture of that era,a bit of a nearly man.Scholz was a solid pro.Thomas ? I recognize his name but never saw him. Sixto Rodriguez?
Good era in reality. For some reason not promoted real well on the Home TV fights. That was the era when Home TV was beginning to televise less and less boxing.....and the lightheavies were affected negatively.
I have a friend that fought out of Fresno and was trained by Pat DiFuria, who also trained Mac Foster and Wayne Thornton. He thought Thornton was very tough based on watching him sparring with Foster.
