bottom line is that it kills Tyson worshippers that Tyson never proved tough enough with the heat on. They hate that he tucked tail. So they make up the INVINCIBLE TYSON! In the minds they know better and it guts their entire thugphonylife meaning.

People saying Liston's jab would deter Tyson who was possibly the best jab slipping heavyweight of all time leave me baffled

The Liston piston of a jab would trouble Mike greatly. Douglas doubled and tripled it up and Mike paid the price. Mike had the mobility and speed but Sonny had that pterodactyl reach. I lean towards Sonny.

Which , what we call today a top notch 220-245 pound modern Heavyweight did Liston ever beat ?

Easy answer, none......but but but Cleveland "the tame House cat" Williams......a Tomatoe can by definition with one of the most padded record ever.

Next in line would be Clay/Ali........two quit jobs

    So thats it.

Liston brings nothing to the table what Tyson has not seen.....reach, lol, everybody had a longer reach......jab,lol, everybody was a Ali impersonater jabber in the 80's and Tysons style was build to effectively deal and counter jabs......size, lol, Liston is a litte taller but same weight....speed, no contest, Tyson will beat Liston to the punch every single time, Tyson is also much more proven against big bangers in the chin department........power ?, I bet my bottom dollar that Liston does not hit harder than Bonecrusher/Ruddock/Bruno, apple to apple with their respective money punches....

On the other hand Liston has never seen anything like Tyson in or outside of the Ring until his OD.........the closest thing would be a green Clay who had similar speed to Tyson of foot and hand.......and Liston packed it in twice without much fuss, undeniable historical fact.

To be honest i think that Prime Tyson was better than Liston in every single department, every one.
More hitting power yes, he was a lot faster ,more explosive with more mass so it is simple like maths.
Much more speed hands and feet.

Better chin yes,Tyson fought more big hws and his chin was tested against real big hws not cruisers or 212 pounder Cleveland Williams.

    Much better defence.

    More skilled.

    More accurate.

Much better combo puncher and better finisher.

1988 Tyson was better than 1960 Sonny Liston

I love overstatements from both sided, it's cool to read biased comments while not being a fan of either fighter :p

any version of tyson would have problems with liston. that piston jab and menacing glare. Tyson could move around alot and dodge some punches... but 1991 tyson goes headhunting and loses... probably by KO.

Tyson was heavier actually. Prime vs prime Liston 212 and Tyson 217/221

Tyson did fine against guys who had elements of Liston like Ruddock, Bonecrusher, Tucker, Thomas and Bruno. Liston never even got to show that he could deal with someone like Tyson. I see Tyson totally exploiting the difference in hand and footspeed and beating Liston up by the middle rounds.

Don't forget Tyson's superior jab too.

Larry Holmes also had a great jab and obviously it was determinant for his victory lmao.
Who cares about a single blow? Tyson had much better left and right hook, uppercut, over right hand, better body puncher etc.

You act like all of these is a given, but it's not. It's very arguable who had better uppercut, hook or overhand right between them.
