What have been some of the early shock big defeats suffered by hot prospects in recent times?

Obviously there is the Khan loss to Prescott that derailed his plans early on.

    Others could be Audley maybe?
Haye losing to Thompson? although that was obviously always going to be a test.
    Likewise Degale losing to Groves.

And what about the heavily hyped fighters that never come back from the early set back?

Gomez beating Arthur was fairly early and he was hotly tipped, as I understand it.

Not sure what sort of chance people were giving Gomez on the lead up though - was Arthur supposed to just brush him aside?

  4. Youssef Al Hamidi beating Anthony Million Dollar Crolla didn't go down too well.

One of the biggest shocks has to be when Francisco Bojado was beaten by Juan Carlos Rubio. People forget him but Bojado had been built up and positioned as boxing's next superstar.

Stephen smith was supposed to win his last fight.

I dont have any problem with fighters losing as long as it improves them in the future (Khan being the obvious)

Prospects should avoid fighters called Rubio. Ask David Lemieux!

The Lemieux one is hopefully a similar thing to Khan. At least he didn't lose to a complete nobody.

(although Prescott was obviously not a name at the time)

Ricardo Williams Jr had a massive signing on fee with Top Rank and then got beaten by Juan Valenzuela who was one of those awesome journeymen that you love to root for, like Emanuel Augustus.

Julio Cesar Garcia had something like 40 fights and was being talked about as a future star. A tall, strong hard hitting Mexican and only 20 years old when he headlined an ESPN card against inactive 40 year old Troy Browning, but sleep walked his way to a 10 round MD loss. He's still only young but he lost to Danny Garcia on the Casamayor V's Marquez undercard.

Andy Lee losing to Brian Vera .

Sometimes a loss is needed early in a career imo as prospects can become too cocky and confident .
