Look at his resume. Wilder fought a bunch of nobodies his entire career.

Let's take a look at another brash loudmouth who KO'd a bunch of people: Broner! Broner quickly garnered popularity, but things really took off after the DeMarco and Malignaggi fights.

    Now let's look at Wilder.
Wilder fought Stiverne and there was a ton of interest there. Stiverne had just gone through a couple of high profile fights vs Arreola, and was linked to a fight with Virtali. Wilder himself was a touted KO artist and Americas next heavyweight hope. And they generated SHO highest rating that year(if not the nr 1 spot, then in the top 3). Not bad for a guy who just fought his first top 10 opponent.
But what came next? Years of nobodies and relatively high TV ratings.
But then the Ortiz fight came along. And boy oh boy did it pay off! Just look at how the Ortiz KO boosted Wilder's reputation. Suddenly everyone was ducking him!(not true, but it still is a popular narrative) .
And now the Fury fight has taken Wilder to a whole new level.

You have to fight popular fighters to gain notoriety, to gain a strong fan base.
Wilder's first PPV was a success and if he keeps on fighting the big name boys, his PPV numbers will keep going up.

Those those who argue Wilder vs. Fury rematch will do 1 million "easily" (3 times the first fight) here's some perspective.

Holyfield vs Lewis I did 1.2 million PPV and ended in a controversial draw that had everyone talking. The rematch did 850k.

Remember these are likely the same that ignored historical trends when it comes to ppv. It didn't matter than Oscar or Floyd in there first PPV fights did under 400k. Wilder v Fury was different and smash those numbers.............

Because Lewis vs Holyfield was a boring fight and wasn't very memorable.

Wilder vs Fury was so exciting and dramatic it transcended the sport and crossed over into the mainstream. People who don't usually watch boxing have taken an interest so the rematch is going to be far more popular and profitable than the original.

A couple weeks ago, Hearn said "80/20 if Wilder/Fury does less than 300k." Looks like its not far off.

Sure, but there may also be some (like me) who are so turned off by the dodgy decision making and scent of corruption that I can't face rewarding the perpetrators with money. TBH that's how I felt when Lewis got robbed over there as well. It just kills my enthusiasm for the sport.

I do agree that people thinking you go from 320k to over a mil are tripping but also illegal streams were non existant for all those fights bar mayweather maidana so you can't compare actualy numbers but the comparison for rematches is still relevant to some extent , if there was no such thing as illegal streams and people had no other way to watch fights, the number of ppv buys would skyrocket.

This is just another Twitter rumor.
I'll wait for Showtime to confirm it.

Lol...cool story. You’re just so broken up, “gutted” if you will, that you just can’t bare the burden of buying the fight? It was such a travesty, and miscarriage of justice that you just can’t do it. It’s insulting that you believe people are so stupid that we’d buy this. It wasn’t a “robbery”, it wasn’t “corrupt”, it was a close competitive fight in which the guy who you felt furthered your agenda didn’t win. Now instead of just owning the fact you’re acting out of spiteful contempt you play the “my moral high ground won’t allow me to enjoy such corruption”...GTFOH.

Na journalists get the numbers from the cable companies. The official number won't change too much.

Kov-Ward had nowhere near the kind of post-fight social media presence as Wilder-Fury.

I'd say the biggest win for Showtime was the odd result of a draw as there is more interest in the re-match. I think we've seen Wilder's best and at age 33, he's going slowly backward.

Correct but the point still stands that there is no guarantee a that a fight jumps from 320k to say 700k
