Cotto will not backpedal against Pacquiao. Cotto only backpedals against fighters that are stronger than him (Margarito, Clottey, last part of the Mosley fight, etc) and just imposes his will agaisnt weaker fighters physically speaking (Judah, Jennings, Gomez etc) So I expect him to impose his will against the physically weaker fighter in Pacquiao.
:good the right makes him a danger from both sides now. He is a fighter that ups his game every fight, growing, learning, becoming an ATG
the issue though is that his footwork isn't good enough to corner pac and he'll get tattooed as he moves in
True. Cotto's rear left hand is pretty nice. He broke Malignaggi's face with that one, didn't he? I can't remember what he dropped Malignaggi with, but I'm pretty sure it was an arcing left.. Cotto seems very strong with that shot.
like I said earlier, he will try this approach at first, but will back off from that once he eats the Pac striaght left. it will be a wake up call that pac is not that much weaker.
yeah it was a straight left that messed up Malignaggi. It was also a straight left that snapped Mosleys head back like a bobblehead. I also noticed it was a huge straight left that buckled Margos knees for a split second at the end of the second round in their fight. Its a very effective punch. The key is if he can land it on Manny.
Coto can def fight going backwards, but I will have to say that the left is setup because the pressure is not put on him. Once he starts the back pedeling, Pac will smell blood and not relent. So the questions is will Pac give him the time to set up that good left. I am in Pac's corner for this fight, but if he gets hits with that left, OUCH!!!
I think at SOME POINT (possibly right before he is stopped) we may see him get on his bike for a bit, but i don't think we will see him back pedaling for multiple rounds like we did in the Clottey and Margarito fights. If Cotto backpedals he has lost the fight before its begun, he doesn't like to throw punches when he backpedals, he goes into a shell where he won't pull the trigger (generally throwing away rounds he could have won if he trusted his own power). I expect we will see Cotto in the middle of the ring quite a bit and Manny using clever angles and out exchanging Cotto with his handspeed. But i don't think Cotto will willingly concede ground easily like he did against Clottey and Margarito, and although Pacquaio will look to beat him up, he will do it in an in-and-out fashion, he won't stand in front of him and attempt to drive him back for significant periods. Manny sticks to a game plan too well to get caught in a typical fight, even if he is dominating Cotto he won't forget to utilise his in-and-out style and tricky angles, he will be weary of Cotto's power for every round of the fight.
I agree.....I think reality is slipping from a lot of people...they are getting sucked into the big Media frenzy that is making an image of Pacquiao of an unbeatable, undestructable Bruce Lee type. I'm not falling for it.....if you watch the Marquez fights and the Morales fights....that will bring your perspective back. Manny is in for a short night or a long night...either way he will end up belly up !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You guys think that Cotto is going to sit back and eat leather all night like Oscar ? Or rush in Kamakaze style with gloves waist level like Hatton ? I don't think so......!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Indeed. Even though Judah was extremely fast and powerful, and Quintana was very cagey and well timed, Cotto just rolled over them. This is going to be a rough night for Manny the way it looks from here.
Exactly my thoughts, I'm telling you right now wait until the first exchange between the two and you will see how Pacquiao is going to be the one backpedaling.
