Early target date for Pacquiao-Mayweather is May 1 Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. could meet on May 1, 2010. Serious negotiations are set to begin for the fight. Ronnie Nathanielsz reports that Bob Arum is is hearing May 1 as the date everyone wants to target for a potential super fight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao. Pacquiao was originally tentatively scheduled for a March 13 return. Had Pacquiao-Cotto been a great, hotly-contested fight, I'd almost guarantee we'd be seeing a rematch on that date. Arum had talked about doing just that as a next step. But since Pacquiao clearly won, the only fight to be made now is Pacquiao against Mayweather. Richard Schaefer recently disclosed that should both Bernard Hopkins and Roy Jones Jr. win on December 2, those two living legends will meet in a rematch 17 years in the making on March 13, on HBO pay-per-view. The first weekend of May is a traditional superfight weekend, with Cinco de Mayo playing some part in that. In 2007, Oscar de la Hoya and Floyd Mayweather Jr. broke all the records with their fight, and this year Pacquiao met Ricky Hatton on that same weekend. May 1 is just logical. It gives them time for a massive promotional effort and plenty of time for what surely will be some drawn-out negotiations, too. http://www.badlefthook.com/2009/11/21/1168231/early-target-date-for-pacquiao
May is around election time. Has Pac announced he will drop his political ambitions yet? You know, it all hinges on this.
This will skyrocket Pac's popularity thus winning the elections.. But I do hope people will vote intelligently..
Even if Pac decided to fight next year, he is a huge mega superstar in the Philippines and majority of the masses will definitely vote for PAC. Voting in the Philippines is mostly a popularity contest. Just add his name to the ballot, he would not have any problem in getting the vote even if he have or don't have an agenda. He would not need to spend a whole lot of his time campaigning. Just his name would get him elected. Most of his backers would be the who's who in Philippine politics, the wealthy, and celebrities.
Yet, he managed not to win in 2007. Currently, he's running for a Congressional seat in Sarangani province. Problem is, he's kinda tied to an infidelity scandal at the moment, and Sarangani province is the home province of his wife...
You lucky *****, lol. Happy birthday for May Day, mate. Hopefully the fighter you want to win actually wins for you. Who are you rooting for? Personally I want Pacquiao to punch the smirk from Mayweather's face, but it will be a hell of a task. Let's hope it's a lucky omen that the fight is almost exactly a year on from when Pacquiao brutally stopped Hatton in 2 rounds.
I want the fight to happen asap, but by the same token, I'd like it to happen so it coinscides with the World Cup. If that were the scenario, we would not have to just listen to the massive hype job that always goes with England when they are in the World Cup! Pacquiao-Mayweather is THE sports event, extravaganza, of 2010! Its bigger than the World Cup imo! It appears progress is being made all the time in respect of making the fight. Come on! :bbb
That was in 2007 but I'm talking about now. Don't you think there is any politician in the Philippines that haven't been in any infidelity scandal but still made it through.
