Earnie Shavers 1977 VS Old Evander 2000 - 15 Rounds

i'm gonna go on a limb and say shavers could "shave" it. if he could take ali (a past it ali) to the wire, he could do so to an also, significantly faded holyfield. shavers by that point was as good a "boxer" as he'd ever be. He certainly had the power to stun holy, the workrate to steal rounds and the physicality to stand up to some of evander's tactics. i think it's close and prime for prime, shavers has no shot. but these versions, i give it to shavers 8-7 on rounds

 

Holyfield late. Boxes more than usual avoiding the power then turns it on late after a few scary moments. Holyfield is also a faded great not as bad as ali was though imo

 

Interesting match-up.
Holyfield has always been most effective against aggressive fighters.
He was far far over-the-hill against Ruiz, at 37 or 38, but I'd still consider him the favourite to defeat Shavers, whose style would suit Holy better.

 

Holyfield.....tough...lots of heart..Shavers.....stamina problems....could PUNCH..but never had the knack of coming up with the big punch when needed....Holyfield by TKO

 

I think Commander Vander weathers the storms. If so, he'll counter Earnie to death in there and stop him late or win lots of rounds for a lopsided decision. And Evander would be using that head in there when close & Shavers was a guy that cut.

 

the only chance of shavers was by ko, and it was simply impossible against evander holyfield, iron chin and lion heart. shavers might knock down him,but still evander would win by ud. shavers was not a great fighter, he was only a hard puncher, he had weak chin ,poor stamina and poor skill.

 

Holyfield's only fight in 2000 was barely scraping by John Ruiz, and being knocked down in that triology none the less. This was most definitely NOT the Holyfield of old. :huh

 

very very close fight imo shavers is such a hard puncher and game fighter he would make this close and holyfield is all heart and would go toe to toe with shavers
