I see where you are coming from. His early losses were really bad. His losses to Lyle, Quarry, Ali and Holmes are nothing to be ashamed of. I think both Lyle and Quarry would beat Leon handily. And we saw what Holmes did to him.

Stallings was far better boxer than his record shows, and possessed sturdy chin.

80s Shavers, while past it, managed to heavily drop prime Larry Holmes and James Tillis (a far less hittable boxer than Neon Leon). Would he land on Spinks? I think yes, and very early. And...Styles make fights, Leon' style was not suitted well against hard hitters.

I do pick Leon over Shavers who lost to Stander, but not against older and more experienced version of Earnie.

I too am surprised by all the Leon picks. I like Spinks but he was made for Earnie. Leon charges in, Shavers nails him, and it's over in the first round.

I have to agree with really just about everything u said. Shavers had understandable losses to Lyle, Ali, Holmes, put put up fantastic efforts regardless. I also do know what u say about Stallings is true as well. I have to agree, that with how wild Leon was and his tendency to expose himself could cost him the fight, and style-wise I would have to agree that Earnie is wrong for Leon. Although I still favor Leon slightly, I believe neither man could be a comfortable favorite going into the fight. Both were exciting, and both were upsettable, and that would be the intrigue to the match.

I’m sure if you scroll back 10-13 years you’ll find something. It helps that I stopped drinking eight years ago ;)

Jimmy Young, Jimmy Ellis, and Ken Norton were better fighters overall than Leon ever was imo. And Shavers creamed them really bad. Leon comes in even faster than Ken...it's Diazepam theater for Leon. A more brutal ko than even the Coetzee.
