Yup, another Shavers thread. We sure do love that Earnie, some of us. How would he do against Andrew Golota, a big, strong, skilled guy, who had some glaring weaknesses?
Golota would win easy--------if he don't get nailed by a crazy shot or two from Ernesto Shavers early on.......... Golota actually boxes rather well when he has his groove dug deep and his blood is flowing..... Shavers would have to wax Golota within 3 rds, or else fall behind and either drop the dec. or get TKO'd late.... MR.BILL
I think Earnie bombs him out of there quick. I never liked Golata against the hitters--far too reachable and he just doesn't fight with smarts/top notch survival skills when hurt. That would help his chances a ton if he could weather storms better. And Andrew is not that big of a hitter and needs to score with tons of his combos to eventually get guys out of there. A homerun equalizer punch against Earnie after landing combos would help a ton. But it isn't there and Shavers can absorb well enough that lets him continue winging against this opponent. I don't like Golata's hand placement and his head is right there to get hit clean. Earnie would dip and fire that big right hand and I think Andrew gets caught with that low left hand and it's deer in the headlights time. Come to think of it, Golata is certainly capable of doing his deer in a headlight thing if Earnie even misses a few of those big bombs but they would sure get his attention. This is the kind of match where I'd like Golata's chances much much better if boxing had rules like other sports and the corner could call timeouts during rounds. Settle things down and stop momentum.
Golota COULD win against Earnie. He had the ability to do,but I don't think that he WOULD ! As soon as Shavers lands a big right hand,Golota mentally crumbles, and freezes, thus allowing Earnie to land another.......and another. Shavers by the time the second round is over.
