Most here are getting too caught up in the flashy first round knockdowns but I've seen the fight multiple times and Baer was landing at least one solid right hand each round until the 11th as well as multiple combos to the torso (and below), it's incredible how many punches to the head Carnera absorbed before calling it quits.
Seeing Baer throw hard, accurate shots in the 11th was impressive, especially after the tenth when he threw the kitchen sink at Primo, knocking him down 3 times (was about to score a fourth kd when the bell rang). Both guys displayed exceptional conditioning that night, and it's severely downplaying Carnera to say that a discount Baer with half the stamina easily beats him.

I quite agree. Shavers, as usual, is being over-estimated.

Baer played to the crowd,I think he could have gotten Primo out of there a lot sooner had he really tried.

Shavers TKO, Primo's too tough to stay down.

I agree. Carnera might have someone pay Shavers off to take a dive.

At the same times, Shavers wasn’t anything approaching durable, so let’s not pretend otherwise. Quarry dusted him inside of three minutes.

It's not like Shavers got dusted by nobodies, Quarry was able to shake men like Lyle- He was no average puncher.
Quarry, Lyle, and Holmes are the only real ones you can put against him- As he was extremely green against Stander, and well past it by the time of the Mercado and Cobb bouts.

I’m unimpressed by his overall sturdiness. Really, he is such an obscenely over-estimated fighter. He had this massive punch, but Carnera proved well & truly he took a lot of stopping. Shavers had a suspect chin, no petrol tank, poor power distribution, lousy balance, very basic defense…the list of faults is not much shorter than Carnera’s own. He’s a damn good chance of losing this if you ask me.

I agree. Shavers is a one trick pony that's been overhyped to all hell due to that one trick, and only was able to look good because of who he fought. The 70s is also a very overhyped decade that is just mostly top heavy- it's a long way down in skill past Young, but because of those big names, Shavers gets similar recognition.
That being said, I still believe that Carnera gets knocked out by Shavers. Earnie doesn't play with his food as much as Baer did.
