Shaver's within 3, though Peter had a hell of a chin and probably takes some Mercado like bombs until he folds.
Shavers was the far better fighter. However with Earnie it's hard to tell. I could see him put away Peter early or Peter could connect and do the same to Shavers. Pickim.
Gets to the canvas first? Only one of them was ever stopped in under 8 rounds...and it wasn't Sam Peter.
Shavers pretty easily. Bigger puncher, superior technician. Peters was an overrated bum with no skill who never beat anybody good. At his best he looked absolutely horrible against an old short notice McCline and 40 yr old Toney.
Tough call. Peter was very durable and he punched hard. 6'2" with a 77" reach, and solid at 240-250 Lbs. He went 35-5 (28KOs) overall and 2-2 (1) in HW world title fights. He was WBC HW Champ. He beat Dale Crowe KO4, Charles Shufford W10, Jovo Pudar W10, Jeremy Williams KO2, Yanqui Diaz KO5, and Taurus Sykes KO2 prior to his fight with Wladimir Klitschko. He gave W. Klitschko hell in their first fight. He dropped him 3 times and lost a somewhat close decision. He came back and beat Robert Hawkins W10, James Toney WSD12 and W12, Jameel McCline (very close fight for the Interim WBC title), and Oleg Maskaev KO6 (WBC title). It was pretty much over for him after this. He was stopped in the 8th round by Vitali Klitschko then lost to Eddie Chambers, LMD10. He came back with 4 easy KO wins including a win over Nagy Aguilera KO2. These fights didn't really prepare him well for a rematch with W. Klitschko though. W. Klitschko stopped him in the 10th round.
I think Peter's chin wins this for him. He's as crude as hell but very tough and hits as hard as any I've seen. He's also got a major weight advantage here. All things considered I'd have to favour Peter.
Total mismatch . Peters was one of the most worthless title challengers of all time. Bruce Seldon was a lot better than Peter was. Shavers would run through Peters.. Shavers didn't mess about. He came to brutalize you and Peter would be right there to take everything Ernie threw at him. He doesn't last two rounds . Peter had a very average chin despite having a reputation for durability. Shavers smashes him to pieces. A guy like Peter would simply not have been a factor in any other era.
This.Peter was a big strong bloke not fast or partially hard hitting .not hard to hit .anyone easy to hit is in big trouble with shavers .all done in 3 rnds
Anything can happen when you put two bangers with limited durability and limited skill together. Shavers should probably be favored on the basis of name recognition, but honestly I think this is closer to a 50/50 bet.
