Like who? Sanders and Brewster were contenders.. Not Journeyman. And Ross Purity was a tough customer for unsuspecting prospect who later developed into about five times the fighter.

Holmes avoided half the worthy contenders of his day while struggling like hell with the ones he actually DID face.

Holmes was decked by snipes and Weaver - neither of whom hit as hard as peter.. And Shavers was beaten by plenty of Journeyman and fringe types.. And his chin and stamina aren't as good as Peter's.

Shavers hit a little harder, but how much harder than Wlad and Vitali who took many rounds to stop Peter?

I don't see an early stoppage win. Who did Shavers top early that did not have a suspect chin and was ranked?

Shavers not only had a suspect chin, he also had issues with cuts and stamina isseues. I would say Peter was the most durable of the two, and if he was in shape, would win in the later rounds.

I agree.. The more I think about it the more I'm favoring Sam Peter. A big hitter who also has the advantages of size, stamina, durability and power to hurt Earnie with is a terrible combination for the man who lost to Ron Stander, Bob Stallings, Ron Lyle, Tex Cobb and Bernardo Mercado.. It seems like the only thing anyone remembers about Shavers is the Holmes knockdown, but his other 75 or so fights and more than a dozen losses are pretty well ignored.

He also beat better guys than Arroela . And Sam Peter.

    Point is Moot.

The second fight he required to beat jaded , battle worn , over weight middle weight James Toney is Peters best win.

Shavers turns Toney over with ease .

    What an embarrassment. :-(

Like who? Ancient versions of Norton and Ellis who were tailor made for him? How about the five year retired Joe bugner or the 10 fight Jimmy Young? If I were to pick the best fighter he ever TRULY beat that distinction would belong to Henry Clark.

    Moot point.

Eubank was floored by pillow puff puncher Calzaghe. He then took bombs from heavy handed cruiser weight Thompson without going down.

Snipes was fast like Calzaghe. The speed floored than . Not the power.

Ali threw faster punchers in the swimming pool than Peter did in the ring. He was one of the slowest sloths that ever boxed.

Shavers right hand blows a hole right through him. He had much faster feet and was far greater offensively .

Why do you keep saying he had good stamina?. That's simply a non truth.

Toney had better stamina as an old bloated mess than Peter in his prime.

He was noted for having 4 rounds in the tank. His stamina and endurance was an insult to championship boxing.

Ali couldn't keep Shavers off him for 15 grueling rounds. His pressure and intensity never let up.

Peters had a stamina level of 3. Shavers had a level of 9.

All Peter has over Shavers is fat.

If Bob was the best guy he fought you may have a point , but he wasn't , so you don't.

And Bob Starlings was better than Peter by about 10 levels.

This is a ridiculous comment. Shavers got in the ring with several men light years better than Sam Peter (Holmes, Lyle, Norton, Quarry). And his win over Norton trumps anything Sam Peter did.
