Intriguing .. at his best, well trained and focused, Shavers was very dangerous for a boxer without a major heavyweight punch .. the 32 year old blown up Spinks was nowhere near as fast or good as the prime Holmes that fought Shavers .. he didn't hit like Quarry or Lyle either .. a fight that going either way wouldn't surprise me ..
Agreed HG. Spinks would have to be on his game all night long. He HAS to take Shavers into deep water. If Shavers actually fought a sensible fight he'd be a good chance. Ironically i think his two best options are virtually polar opposites. Coming out and going after a 1 or 2 round KO wouldn't be the silliest but nor would actually pacing himself knowing he only has to land a half decent blow to have Spinks in big trouble. A tough one to pick between Spinks huge edge in skill and Shavers power and size advantage.
Also keep in mind unlike Qwai with a 71" reach Shavers actually had a 79" reach .. it is a real toss up ..
Spinks might outbox him by a very comfortable UD. That said, all Shavers needs is one clean shot. If Tyson knocked him out, Shavers would hospitalize him.
Tyson was far more skilled than Shavers though and dominated from the opening bell, things would be a lot closer between Spinks and Shavers.
