Do you guys know if it's easier to injure your hand in a bout or sparring than it is hitting the heavybag?

Heavybag all day long for me as you are hitting with power punches on every shot, as opposed to picking most of them using a live opponent.
Another reason is that a well hung and weighted bag is harder to move than a live body so has less give when you hit it, especiallly on the downswing.

i injured hand few times in sparring, hand always started swelling after sparring. That was probably shots in elbows and arms, it can hurt when i hit the forhead too.. i think that hitting the bag is predictable for our hands, we can concentrate our shots on spot we see in the moment. Fighting real opponent is different because his body always moves.

Its how your punch lands not what you're doing.

Seems like a bit of a pointless question?

Depends on what you're doing on the bag. On the bag you should be able to keep your form properly.

Sometimes in sparring or a bout you will land on someone's elbow which can hurt a lot. If it's an amateur bout I also think the AIBA gloves **** up your hands. Can't make a fist properly in them if you have long fingers and then can't land well, **** up your wrist as a result.

Your post is the only pointless part of this thread.

Maybe you should re-read the first sentence of my post, the answer is very simple.

Did you notice the question mark at the end of what I said before you got upset? What I said was more it seems a bit pointless, maybe explain why what you're asking matters.

Why you've taken offence to such a simple post I don't know.

Your post was unhelpful and didn't answer my question.

I didn't ask how you injur your hand, I asked which scenario it's most likely to happen.

You sound kinda paranoid. I'm just asking a little question dudester.

Actually, my post did answer your question. Again, re-read what I said.

This is what I was referring to when I said it was a pointless question. You're meant to be a boxer. What difference does it make when you're most likely to hurt your hand? I'm asking why you're asking the question and what it relates to. No need to be so defensive.

You do come out with some wierd things. Paranoid? What the ****? Lol

Oh ok, that's all you had to say.
Im just curious really because I just started sparring not too long ago, and wanted to compare it to the heavybag.

Nothing too bad. I was just more curious as to what to expect. Occasionally I'll hurt my wrist or a knuckle, and it always clears up in a few days to a week.

But there are certain punches like hooks that make my wrists more prone to damage. So far punching has felt cleaner in sparring but I'm not punching at the same pace as on the bag.

You can't really compare the two, as I said its how your punch lands not what you hit.

You could be punching someone in the body, their face, pads, heavy bag, a piece of wood, ice, brick whatever, if your technique is poor you're going to **** yourself up.

There's other factors such as bone strength etc but overall you can't predict which activity will be safer as you could injure yourself in various ways by doing just about anything.

Basically the key factor is technique not the activity.

You shouldn't be hurting your hand in sparring because you are not power punching ,as you would on a HB . Ive only hurt my hand twice one was on HB going full blast that caused slight fracture to left hand and one was when i slipped outside on rocks missing the bag completely and thudding my right hand on a oak tree with foam karate gloves that were like 5oz gloves ......... point being you should be conditioning your hands on the bag not your sparring partner . So the answer is HB .

Against an real opponent injury can happen give or take ,hitting wrong etc ..... most ppl hurt their hand bc of weak wrists that cant support the impact which can make the hand flop and weak wrists and forearms wont support the hand as much. So it depends how you fight and how hard you hit the bag and how long . Personally for me its HB training that would be more risky considering i do over 2 hours of power punching at times . The odds of me injuring my hand on a opponent is slim bc of the points i addressed ,and i also hit sand bags at the bottom which is as hard as concrete practically ,no human head is going to duplicate that.

HB Note ... If you arent generating alot of force as you are capable of and still hurt your hands you either have bad technique or your physically not capable of dealing with the shock absorbing coming back at you which will have your hand hurting ,You should be able to put 100% behind your punch without pain ,if you cant then your body as a whole is not conditioned to where it should be .
