Just thinking aloud here, after seeing something in the dempsey thread, about the eastern bloc countrys from the 70s.

My question is this, say russia had thrown of the communist party not in 1989 or so but say it had falling in the 60s or 70s,what impact would this have had in boxing?,imagine they had been allowed to turn pros,do you think america would have still dominated the scene, and mainly im talking about the HWs

I dont know much about the russian and east euros from that era,i beleive they were tough to beat at the amauter levels, and did well in the olympics etc,but were there any men who could have done well at the pro level?

It was always a bit sad to see ali take on a lot of poor fighters, while waiting for the top men to come around again, imagine the level of competion included russians etc,the bum of the month type fights that he walked through maybe would never have occured, any opinions on this?
