Lets say that we were going to write a letter to the IBHOF ahead of their next balot arguing the case for certain fighters to be inducted. Who would you argue for? Is there a potential candidate you feel so strongly about that you would pen a short article arguing for their induction? I want to see exactly what I have got in both departments.
Willie Joyce. He went 2-2 with a still relevant Henry Armstrong, 3-1 with an up n' coming Ike Williams, 2-0-1 with Hall of Fame lightweight puncher Lew Jenkins and beat a good stash of contenders. On top of that, Joyce was never knocked out.
Lloyd Marshall has wins over Burley, Ken Overlin, Holman, Maxim, Shorty Hogue, Chase, LaMotta and Ezzard Charles
First one that came to my mind, and will continue to come to my mind until the Hall gets its ass together and inducts him. :fire
I am on both the modern and oldtimers selected committee and I did vote for Marshall. As far as Joyce goes, he was not even on the ballot this year. He did lose to 2 boxers that I knew very well. Tippy Larkin beat him twice and Allie Stolz once. I use to take Larkin, who was on ballot, around to all the boxing events in the last 10 years of his life. When he died, I gave the eulogy.
This was on another thread BUT I don't answer any questions that have the "F" word in their Title. Newsboy Brown was on this years ballot and I did vote for him as well. I also voted for Kansas but not for Farr.
I really should not have to answer this BUT if you must know, I am a Deacon in my Church for over 20 years and that kind of language doesn't belong in this or any other sports or boxing forum. The last time I stated something like this, someone said, I am sorry to here that, and that is why I stopped being a part of the discussings. We should all talk and write like gentlemen, or ladies when we are on these forums. By writing such things, it just brings the sport down, and we don't need that.
I have no idea what that means BUT most forums have a block on such language. Lets get back to talking about who belongs in the Hall of Fame that hasn't got the votes to do so.
This forum's a bit more realistic than most. People swear in every day life. Tony Galento did. Just words, expression of self. But I understand you now, church (lower case 'c') and all that. Where do you stand on Esteban De Jesus?
Thank you. By the way I never swear at all. I am noted for that. Most of my friends do BUT they try not to around me and I never told them not too, they just know how I am, and they respect that. Esteban De Jesus is borderline at best. He would be in the same position as Joyce. He beat Duran once and that is what he is best known for, even though he did have some other good wins as well. He was not on this years ballot.
