I remember Broner being too fat for 130 and moving up to fight DeMarco for the WBC 135 belt without really being ranked for it. If he keeps this up he may have to move to 147 and dismantle his boss and his Andre Berto version of a shoulder roll.
Absolutely true. Commey was good tonight, and still has a bright future ahead. DeMarco just wasn't very good to begin with.
That's a good shout, he fights very similar and isn't afraid to bang it out if need be.. Hopefully he goes after the weak link of the division next, good ole turbo terry Flanagan.
Like a sake of sand. Broner had no answer for pressure at that time and it showed in the Paulie fight. Way before Maidana beat the brakes off him. Props to Broner for putting up a great fight with Chino though. That was his beat fight ever.
Wouldn't mind seeing Easter Jr- Barthelemy. Too bad Barthelemy moved up. Maybe when Easter moves up we can catch it.
Commey had an iron chin, and heart, that's about it. He was slow, with horrible foot work, crudely primitive punching technique, no hand speed, I was fairly disappointed in his lack of refinement having 24 bouts under his belt.
I liked the kid, and I thought he showed some good skills out there. A little sloppy in the exchange but overall he's pretty good.
Outside of the right hand, I was unimpressed. His footwork was so bad, that he couldn't get the proper punching distance 95% of the time. They need to keep Commey in the States, and put him in the gym with a quality trainer for a year and a half. I think he would greatly benefit from that. To have 24 fights under your belt, but bring that amount of crudeness into the ring is mind boggling. The amateurish, awkwardly thrown punches reminded me of Baldomir, or Wild man Mayorga.
lol seriously though. When is the last time you saw a boxer have such an issue with simple lateral movement, or punch in such a crude manner? I was disappointed that Easter even let the guy win rounds. That is how crude Commey was. At least Mayorga had handspeed to go with his crude punching technique and poor footwork.
Ring Magazine had a good article a few months back, on the way Broner 's team finagled their way to getting belts in 4 weight divisions, cherry picking the easiest possible opponent and so forth. Broner does have serious talent, even I can admit that, and in someone who absolutely can't stand his delusional Mayweather wannabe-ass. But his fights against legit competition haven't turned our well for him. Anyways in regards to Easter, in this fight against Commey, I think it was in round 3, when Commey "hurt" (I wish there was a word for when a guy takes a shot and is affected, but not necessarily hurt..But is like 75% more vulnerable to eat a combination or a few power shots in the next 20 seconds...) Easter with a right hand on the front of Easter's face, then followed it with a left hook, which I think stunned Easter...and the reason I think he was stunned was because HE was the reason they got tied up and both touched the canvas, Witt Commey losing his footing awkwardly falling backwards all the way into the ropes. Easter knew he would be in danger if he kept fighting right away, so he pulled Commey down, making it look like they got tangled up, and it worked out great for him..he got about 15 seconds of recovery time, and the clock wasn't stopped...best case scenario for him. He should've been penalized. They should have a rule that penalizes a fighter for delaying the fight in a time that significantly inhibits their opponent. That was possibly Commey's best chance to KO Easter, and he had it taken away from him, by a clever opponent. That's all that matters; if boxing is to be a legitimate sport, it needs to enforce rules that promote fairness, and what happened to Commey in that moment was unfair. That being said, I thought it was an exciting fight overall...similar to Marcus Browne vs Radivoje Kalajdzic, a fight where you expect a knockout from either guy in every round.. Easter got a home town decision. I hope fans realize that. It's the biggest, glaring, and most shameful problem in boxing today, and the reason why casual fans don't care much for boxing these days.
