Good point. Parlov was first from behind Iron Curtain to win world title. He wasn't heavyweight though. Strictly speaking of heavyweights from behind Iron Curtain after Communism when they were allowed to go pro, do you consider Schulz, Zolkin and Golota precursors to the Eastern Euro heavyweight scene, pre-Klitschko? Would you include other fighters who could be precursors in this regard?

    I like these fighters.

Shulz should've been lineal HW champion of the world, he deserved win over Foreman, and then he beat Botha for vacant IBF belt but was robbed.

Maskaev achieved more than anyone of his team/supporters could've imagined. He came back from a career-ending KO's to win the WBC HW championship at 37.

Golota on the other hand was an underachiever, he should've won the belt at least on one occasion, but his mentality was his worst enemy. Still fine skills, stamina and HW size.

Zolkin was good enough to score some wins over strong opponents, decent contender.

Golota was the best EE HW at his peak, better than the Klitschkos.
Mavrovic had the best chin, took a lot of hard punches from prime Lewis and didn't flinch.
