I didn't do any research on the matter even though I remember a couple of guys like Wladmir Sidorenko and Kostya Tzsyu at the lower classes. What I think is that they are big naturally and they have trained very hard since their amateur days just like the cuban folks to engage in the professional business with superior defensive and attacking technique and they are physically fit and athletic along with it whereas the american folks who are big have not trained that hard ( not like the Tyson's and the Holyfield's of yesterday) and the guys have been a lil bit laid back, I remember Hasim Rahman admitting that and speaking on his and on their countrymen's behalf after he lost his WBC belt and the rematch against Oleg Maskaev to HBO's Larry Merchant when all the titles were in possession of Eastern Europeans including the WBO and IBO titles...

 

In boxing its good to have great speed, coordination, reflexes and rhythm. Eastern Euros like their cousins lack that and only have brute barbarian cro-magnon strength and power. Thats why their most effective weight is Heavyweight.

Also, size growth in the Heavyweight division has steadily gone up. Recently, it's just gotten too far passed the tipping point. Unless you consider some of the excuses for ranked HWs today to be elite conditioned athletes. This does not account for the Super HWs like Lewis and the K brothers, obviously (More so the Arreola types).

More importantly, to believe size is the biggest indicator for why Americans have fallen off (When it has been explained that largest US athletes of all races compete more frequently in other sports anyway) in HW boxing is to believe that the current crop of HWs would mow down those of the past. If you believe Arreola, Povetkin, Chagaev, Valuev, let alone the K brothers would beat Tyson because of Eastern European supremacy (Our just being bigger, stronger athletes. And Eastern Europeans just tend to be this more often somehow) then fine. Anyone who would believe that would be living in a deluded fantasy world, though.

 

The eastern-european male is the strongest male on the planet. Very intelligent men who do research on athletic differences among the various races of people have concluded , based on research, that eastern euro males have, on average, more upperbody strength than any other. Just look at strongman contests. I saw one in south africa; a bunch of black fans watching huge white nordic males wiping the floor with all competition. Larry Merchant, while covering the Chris Arreola, Vitali fight expressed the phenomenal strength advantage best and I paraphrase; Vitali is so strong, he hits so hard with arm punches that he really doesn't even have to worry about timing Chris with countershots at this point.
