hell yeah he does, as long has he makes 160 he could come in 200 for all i care. to much weight will either help him or hurt him. but i think hes going to be a monster in the ring, margarito X williams = chavez jr !!!

Why are people being such idiots? If he made 160 the day before, who gives a ****? Stop trying to come up with every excuse to discredit the man.

It's also not physically possible to go up to 190. A fighter can go up 20 lbs and he'd really drained himself to do that. To go up 30 lbs in 1 day...impossible.

While I agree that within the rules of boxing all he has to do is make 160 the day before (I'm not going to pretend the WBC's rehydration rules apply to Chavez anyway), I don't think it's that outlandish to not give him as much credit if he enjoys a 15+ pound weight advantage. The extreme rehydration we're seeing more and more skews the playing field and makes matches increasingly a matter of who has the better nutritionist and who can drain and rehydrate most effectively, not who is the better boxer.

Yeah I'm willing to grant Chavez could very well wear Martinez down, but I really don't understand this idea that he's a pressure fighter with high workrate comparable to those two. He takes parts of rounds off just as frequently as Martinez and more often than not doesn't throw until his feet are set.

exactly what I've been thinking to. And that part in bold is the keep point to this fight. I believe Sergio won't let Chavez set up to punch enough

I've never heard of a boxer (or mma fighter) who cuts more than 20-25lbs I don't think that's possible

every fighter is given the same opportunities to work the weigh in rules to his advantage. you can drain yourself to fight at the lightest your body will let you while sacrificing power and strength, or you can come in at a more comfortable weight and face bigger, stronger guys. you decide where your best chance of success lies, no excuses.

Williams and Margarito only have one thing in common with Junior, Tuffness, Williams has **** for defense though he does have a high work rate look at his connect % even against Margarito who is said to have no defense his connect % is ****.

Chavez has a tighter defense than Margarito and Williams, he doesnt have that high of a work rate but he places his shots and thats going to be the difference here, he is also a big kid, who puts loads of pressure, that style has always given Martinez trouble and its what got him knocked out by Margarito he is facing the same style but against a younger fresher fighter at a much higher weight.

I am looking forward to this fight simply because of all the crybabies here crying about weight advantages, first you all ***** and say he is ducking him now that we have the fight your all making excuses about his weight and the size advantage the kid is in a no win situation

Chavez is also a much bigger puncher than Williams or Margarito.

The weight advantage of Chavez is really the only disadvantage Martinez has going into this fight. Chavez is a big ape.
