I'm on team Canelo & will remain so, but i'm also on team boxing. There should be a spot for his fans to admit that he wasn't ready and move on...here.
Canelo will be back, no worries there. I thought he showed some great intelligence against Mayweather personally. Although he didn't win the fight, I think Canelo will learn a lot from this experience and only get better as a result. I disagree with people who are being hard on him. Canelo was playing chess with a master, and did not look completely out of his league. If he's smart, he's watching that film over and over to improve.
How did he show great intelligence? By trying to outhink and outbox Floyd? That was sure to produce a loss and it did. Where was the consistent body work? Where was his suing his size to try to wear down Floyd? Too me he showed a lack of intelligence in going forward with a plan that had no chance from the start.
Ehhh... Not to bothered by this defeat to be honest. (Not disappointed in Alvarez either.) Mayweather is a super elite fighter.
I think you're not giving enough credit to Mayweather here and dissing Canelo too much. That's what I think. Mayweather was smart by coming out fast, taking the center of the ring, and establishing the jab. It caused Canelo to not be able to get his jab off, as Mayweather was the quicker man and would get off first. This neutralizing of Canelo's jab was the key for the fight. Without the jab, Canelo could not back up Mayweather with it, and instead had to try to resort to cutting off the ring and landing a shot. He also tried to time and counter Floyd's right hand as well. This type of strategy as we know will not work against Floyd, he started sticking and moving, and setting things up off the jab. If you compare his statistics from recent bouts, I'm sure you'll see Mayweather utilized and relied on the jab more in this bout than in others. It was a key part of their fight plan. (I haven't checked the actual numbers) If you notice, Floyd was not throwing his straight right as often in this bout either. Canelo was looking for it, so Floyd was mixing it up like the great champion he is. It also enabled Floyd to evade long exchanges with Canelo as he didn't need to over-extend with the right. Canelo tried to play possum on the ropes as well, but soon realized that wouldn't work against a smart sharp shooter like Floyd. Mayweather wasn't wasting punches, and he was connecting, not missing. Canelo never tried that strategy again. Personally, I thought Canelo should have attempted to try to jab WITH Floyd more than he did. But again, this is a credit to Mayweather for using his footwork to force a reset, and getting off his punch first. The speed was clearly frustrating Canelo. Canelo will improve from this, just IMO. People who say he didn't alter his gameplan weren't paying attention. Canelo did try to employ different strategies, but Mayweather is a true ATG and adjusted.
Canelo is a good fighter he has some nice skills he got a boxing lesson in trying to outbox the boxer but he didn't embarrass himself. He really has nothing to be ashamed of. I look forward to seeing him back in the ring soon.
Okay Canelo caused Floyd to adjust but either way it did not show great rign intelligence. If you have great ring intelligence you use what you can. I think Canelo landed a good left hook to the body in the 11th round. Canelo should have thrown more of those from the first round instead of trying to feint every two seconds. He had a natural size advantage which never factored into the fight becuase he fough Floyd's fight.
We'll have to agree to disagree. I think by discrediting Canelo, you're not giving credit where credit is due, and that is to Floyd Mayweather Jr. for an excellent performance. I think Canelo is an intelligent fighter, just IMO like I said. We won't know for sure until we see how he bounces back from this learning experience though.
I think all of this plays into the too young idea. He had his moments, but he was too obvious in trying to draw Floyd falling into the ropes and trying to trick Floyd into putting canelo on the ropes, some great changes in tactics in the championship rounds, but again too little to late. Also leaves me wondering if he's being too loyal to the coaching team that got him to this point? again, still on Team Canelo and willing to ppv to watch him, but also willing to admit much more freely now that Mayweather is closer to a GOAT than b4 this fight.
Ginger boy gets exposed as a spoiled little bully and thug. The kids already history, just another hyped up number.
Agree, the old adage that "styles make fights" really rang true in this contest. Given the right opponent Canelo is very entertaining. He just tried to outbox the "boxer" and failed. JET
