Anyone follow this? I get a kick out of watching these unlicensed fights between ex-boxers who are either damaged goods, and gypsy fighters and hard cases. I believe Scott Gammer is declared the EBF HW champion; they have three weight classes as far as I know of, Cruiserweight, Heavyweight and Super-Heavyweight.
There's loads of weight clases, and loads of unlicenced boxing throughout the country. The boxing isn't unlicenced, its simply not licenced by the bbbc but instead the EBF. Some good ams on the scene as well as ex pro's, that said its hugely dangerous and a matter of time before someone is seriously injured. The participants sign a disclaimer to say they are happy to take part regardless of potential injury but I'd love to see how that would stand up in court. There is a place for white collar boxing and the like but it needs to be done properly and the shows that i've been to, while entertaining, have been a little like russian roulette.
Personally, I get a kick out of watching highly skilled athletes try to outwit, outmaneuver and outheart (that's a word, I promise) each other. That's why I love boxing. If I wanted to watch brawls full of people who couldn't quite make it as boxers and masters of the sweet science itself, I'd watch the UFC. Each to their won, but I personally couldn't enjoy watching unlicensed scrapping:good.
I don't like unlicensed boxing... It carries to much additional risk...:nono I ain't into UFC either...:-( That's a very interesting point about where the unlicensed boxing would stand up in court with some very experienced barristers pouring over it...:nut
Do they make any money in the EBF fights i heard they jus get a cut of what ever tickets they sell lik alot of the uk cage fighters do?? Am undecided on it mayb it could b a good thing 4 ex pro's that still fancy a scrap as they can't go back to the Am's!
That's basically how it works in pro boxing too. Unless you were a big name as an amateur, most pros basically work on percentage of tickets they sell.
I was looking on the website for this around 3 days ago. Was thinking about doing a little bit of it but it DEFINITELY NOT 'White Collar Boxing' in the sense you would believe it to be. What is the point in anybody who has no experience in the game going into (A pretty much) unlicensed bout with some dick of an ex pro trying to prove a point infront of his friends who are all pissed ringside (You can buy drinks at the venue - Mostly clubs). It is dangerous as **** and most definately not worth doing unless you are either a. hard as **** b. can box to a good standard c. mentally ******ed. John the next one is in a month or so at the Ritz ( "Love Train" ) Club Manchester. I may go and have a watch if you fancy it ?
There are many different weight catergories. Mark Potter is the 'EBF' HW champ at present if im not mistaken. The only problem with it really is that you can end up fighting a guy 1 or 2 stone heavier maybe and if you agree to take the fight then its on your toes really. They always have doctors and ambulances on the scene same as in the Ams or Pros. There are a few good boxers on the circuit but there are also some atrocious well... Im not even going to call them boxers because they arent.
Didn't Potter knock the man in your avatar out on one of these shows last year? Whats this about Gammer being involved then? Didn't know that.
Don't think Gammer is involved, was rumoured to be fighting Mathew Ellis recently. Yes potter did and Nicolfly is absolutely right about the EBF scene- few talented lads but also some not worthy of calling themselves boxers- they are that bad.
:deal In my many years I have seen punch-ups galore in London. 99.9% of the time they are crap. Boxing is a skill, if not an art form, and street fighting isn't. I'm not going to condem anyone who watches EBF sanctioned fights or, for that matter, anyone participates in them but it's not something that interests me.
http://wcbc.co.uk/ I found this white-collar boxing outfit when I was searching for some footage of Patrick Mendy - the only vid of him was a fight he had at one of these shows. Seemed like he had the fight whilst also fighting in the pro's - he has a decent record and should be seen as a level above competitors in the white-collar boxing ranks, but if its an extra payday for him I can see him continuing to do it.
