Everytime a thread appears asking members which fights should be considered boxings greatest bouts I mention the elder vs burton fight....it's good to see others appreciate what those men left in the ring that night.

 

I agree it was a very good fight

 

:-( I'm ashamed to say around the time this happened I was still primarily an HBO WCB/BAD mark...missed out on a lot of great early ShoBox cards.

 

Still to this day, not a shred or highlight of this fight can be found on the internet and I've spent A LOT of time looking. The offer from my original thread stands: I will pay shipping in full for even a VHS copy of this one. Someone PM me!

This fight has reached mythical proportions for me.

I can totally understand why many would argue this fight is below the previously mentioned classics but what separates this bout is exactly what was pointed out these guys where desperate, hungry pedestrian level fringe contenders who fought as if this would be their last meal ticket....there was a genuine appreciation expressed by the crowd the trainers and more importantly the fighters that left chills up my spine. Hard for me to say it was the greatest all time but it was biblical... subtle in many ways and pure in their humility.

no one really talks about that fight too much but it turned into an unexpected classic..that fight ruined both of them though
