While browsing the EBU website i came across something interesting regarding fighter purses. So what this means is the minimum combined purse for both boxers competing in European title fights are as follows.. Flyweight - Superfeather 94,000 Lightweight - Middleweight 97,000 Supermiddle - Heavyweight 100,000 Surely this cant be right, European titles are certainly highly regarded but these minimum purses seem ridiculously high particularly for the lower weights. Its great for the boxers but how the hell are promoters supposed to come with that cash ? What do you guys think about this ? Also any boxers or promoters on here that have any experience dealing with the EBU that could shed some light on this ? Source = http://www.boxebu.com/
But the rules specifically state the sanction fee is 5% of both boxers purses combined, a minimum of which is 4,700.
I see, so is there a minimum amount of money that the fighters have to earn to compete for that title or does it not matter as long as the EBU get their fee ?
I doubt that. Itll be a management decision, if your a decent flyweight but are on mickey mouse money because u cant draw then maybe you'd think ****, I cant really afford the european, lets go for one of the dozen others... But also if ur winning the EBU your profile will probably go up, so therefore the money would go up. You see world champions dropping abc belts all the time for this reason, they dont wanna share such a high percentage of their cash with some other organisation they dont need anymore.
I think that 4700 euros is the minimum combined purse, an EBU title fight went for 8000 euros at purse bids a couple of weeks ago.
