Matchroom have announced Dodd v Stalker at the Echo on the 30th, this would have been great undercard for Smith on 16th. The question now has to be who is promoting the show on the 16th and where is the undercard going to come from? BT/BN have Saunders fight that night, Sky have GGG/Canelo
Apparantly the smith show has to be bought as a full package, i.e you have to buy all the wbss fights, hearn cant just show the smith fight. Hearn / sky has said he wont be buying the wbss package. This is silly from wbss imo they shoukd akso be selling single fights. I hope it changes so hearn/ sky can show smith
Me to but can't see Matchroom promoting twice in 2 weeks at echo, where is undercard coming from? Your probably right I thought I had saw Sky had
the show is promoted by the wbss, the broadcaster will show the fight and thats it, so yea not sure where the wbss will get the undercard from. BT sports have Canelo vs GGG by the way.
You've never mentioned this mate. It's that pesky Joe Gallagher pulling him out of fights isn't it cos he's frightened of Dirrell...am I right?
Yeah strange one, the negotiations went on for a lifetime but I have a question for anybody who knows. Dirrell is now fighting David Benavidez who I personally rate very highly, now Benavidez is ranked 4th in the WBC, behind C Smith, Dirrell and Yildirim respectively. Yildirim is in the WBSS so if Smith fought and beat Dirrell would his first defence have been a mandatory? and I'm assuming that would have been Benavidez because Yildirim has entered the WBSS. So was Smith and Matchroom thinking long term'ish? Were they thinking this WBSS is an easier option than fighting a Dirrell in the USA and if winning then Benavidez? I don't know so if anybody does let me know, I don't think Smith avoided Dirrell I think he avoided Benavidez.
It's a shame the Fielding Cox fight fell through because if that was on with the Dodd Stalker you'd have a great little night for the 'proper fans' as there's no big names on the bill just well matched domestic scraps. Suppose it gives Groves a good chance of getting through and setting up a worldly of a fight against Eubank so I can't complain.
I don't think Smith avoided anyone he simply backed himself to win this tournament and end it an extremely wealthy world champion. Should he do so it also appears to guarantee him 3 fights in 9-12 months so keeps him active
It's Callum Smith's decision ultimately mate. He can be advised but he will have the final say. He was stagnating and the worry was, was the fight going to happen or was there going to be more and more delays?
