he buys the airtime, probably a slot that will not be primetime for tv. the networks are in bigger trouble than boxing so probably welcome the revenue. Haymon sells the airtime for a massive profit to advertisers like the Super Bowl would.
i posted a thread once talking about how fmj had 900K plus views for the maidana rematch and folks on this forum blasted me for bringing up irrelevant schit htat had nothing to do with boxing...people are amazing
Finally,a sane poster that gets it.The revenues structure just does not work unless there is a situation that has yet to be revealed. Not a single reporter has investigated nor reported how this deal works. The advertising revenue alone does not add up to a profitable bottom line.
this is how it's going to work..... He's going to put his stars vs really tough fighters, just like the one coming up in march.... he's hoping sometimes, once in a while some of his stars lose...that way he can keep them on NBC and pretty much milk them for a while since they will still have a name, and with a loss or two no one will complain if they fight lower opposition (which means lower purses)....the ones that shine, shine and keep shining will eventually end up on ppv, where he can make up a lot of the money that has been invested....all while still having fighters with big names fight on nbc..... that...plus all his sponsors etc etc
Prior to 2013 people complained how Haymons fighters would never fight each other. In 2013 they did. 2014 was spent building up the NBC patform which means that al his stars need to be safe. 2015 in esence should once again be a repeat of 2013
It's a game changer....maybe he wants to weed out the real ones from the fake ones....ever think about that ? how long can he possible keep doing what he used to do for ? no one has been successful at that, NO ONE !
at this time, it is actually better for haymon to make his champs fight against each than matching them against their mandatory. his champ loses, belt still stays. lsc-rigo quillin-gg stevenson-kovalev garcia-postol, herrera bey would lose to beltran and crawford.
is that what you got from his post? He didn't say the fights have to draw SuperBowl like numbers. Nothing does. He's just explaining that it'll make it's money like the Superbowl but on a smaller scale
Fat Dan at ESPN admitted he has no idea how Haymon cannot do anything but lose on this venture-although he states knowing Haymon it is not his money but the mysterious "investors".:hey
They're also showing pre fight build up shows similar to 24/7, then there are reruns and they can get a company to sponsor the whole show like Tecate does with Friday Night Fights. You're leaving out some variables here. And besides, so what if he loses money in the first year? Most investments do. Whenever you start a business, it'll take 6-24 months for you to break even if you're successful.
Obviously Al Haymon has a plan and we have no clue how he plans to achieve it, but its hard for me to doubt that he knows what he is doing. He is obviously way smarter than any of us. He has also secured investors who seem to think he knows what he is doing. It also seems to be that this isn't the only network he will be doing this with. CBS and Spike are probably next and I wouldn't be surprised if he eventually ends up with an over the top subscription service. I can't believe the announce team. That will certainly give it a big time feel. I think having Al Michaels is huge to draw in people who aren't big time boxing fans. I think its safe to say that Haymon has been planning this for some time. I'm sure he knows what he is doing.
I like how before all this alot of people were all like "fighters should just fight, forget about the money. If they don't fight, it's not becuase of money, its because they are scared". Now that Haymon has the NBC deal, it's like "OMG, how are these fighters being paid??" Pathetic.
