For those of you who know who Too Tall Jones was ( and truth be told, most of you probably don't ), he was a professional football player who played the defensive end position, and retired with 57 quarterback sacks. For you guys from England, Scotland, Ireland, Australia, etc. Football is played a tad differently here in the states than it is abroad. Anyway, Jones was 6'9" and 255 lbs during his boxing career. He had all but 6 pro fights, yet won all of them. I think a man of his size and toughness gives the Rock some problems.... Marciano would knock Jones out. Jones -- in spite of his size -- wasn't much of a fighter. He struggled sometimes with "D" level opposition.
Jones first fight was one Jesus `Yaqui` Meneses. All of 6ft. and 200lbs. He dropped Jones in the last rd. How do you really think Marciano`s Susie Q would do on the chin of Too Tall ? Meneses was never even ranked. it would only take one solid shot from Rocky. And he would land it...
"Too Tall" would have as much success in the ring with Marciano as Rocky would trying to block "Too Tall" on the gridiron. Not to disparage "Too Tall", at least he had the balls to climb in the ring and try, but he was a world class football player, not boxer. But for the record, I think "Too Tall" would have destroyed Mark Gastineau if they fought.
That was his first goddamn fight with no amatuer career. TO answer your question, I think a guy who made a living coliding with giant linemen would have done fine taking Rocky's suzieQ's
There have been many stories of American Football players challenging, usually smaller boxers to fights. Every story I've heard has ended in either the much bigger Football player being beat up or just humiliated. Rocky would win, purely because he has different skills, stamina etc. Their bodies have been trained and prepared for different things. I'll take Rocky, purely because he was a world class heavyweight boxer. Different sports entirely, different bodies, strengths and weaknesses.
Rocky would have moidered him, this is a mismatch really. No pro football player no matter what his size will last more than a few rounds against a professional heavyweight/cruiserweight boxer who packs a knockout punch in either fist and who is in spartan condition like Rocky was.
