I was reading a stroy that was giving you an update on his contract situation. And aparently if he comes to the UFC, he gets an april showdown with Benson Henderson. http://www.bloodyelbow.com/2013/1/9...-alvarez-granted-immediate-title-shot-and-ppv and then i read one saying that Dana said he wont get an imediate title shot, and Gilbert Melendez gets the title shot. So what im getting at is, Do you think Eddie deserves an imediate title shot? or should they give it to Gilbert? I dont think Eddie should get it, He should win a fight or 2 first. And prove he can fight with the best guys. Personally i dont think he has the chin to fight with elite UFC lightweights. But id like to see him fight Jim Miller. I do think Melendez will get the shot. Hes had a much better resume against better guys. So what do yall think? who gets the shot Eddie or Melendez???
This is an example of Dana hurting UFC matchmaking. Hector Lombard doesn't get one, but these two assholes do? If I put my thinking cap on and try to go past Lombard than I'm sure more inconsistencies will follow. When you look at fight records, a lot of solid Contenders got theirs after their first win in The UFC (Rampage and Anderson Silva for example). When it comes down to Alvarez or Melendez, I say neither.... Cerrone or Pettis is only fair.
Like I said in the other thread, if Eddie does come over, make Melendez vs. Alvarez for #1 contender. I don't think it would be totally unfair if Melendez got a shot immediately, though.
Fighting Gil right after whooping Nate just doesn't sit well with me. Cerrone III or Pettis II is epic, The UFC can't lose and Rob just made perfect sense. Gil v Eddie is gonna get fans wet, and expect an explosion when the winner fights The LW Champ later this year. Cerrone III or Pettis II is not something you pass up, everyone wins this way.
Firat Gil, then Avarez gets his his :dead It's gonna clog up the division, and who is the winner of the Fox card to fight?? Don't say Diaz because he just got humiliated. I just think it would be unfair to the winner of the Fox card to not get one and sit on the sideline, fight another contender, whatever.
I think Cerrone vs. Petts should get it. But htey are most likely gunnna give it to gil or eddie. It would be fun to watch eddie and gil fight for the numbered one contender.
Lombard was never ranked top-5, neither was Alvarez. Gilbert Melendez, on the other hand, has fluctuated between 2 and 4. He deserves one.
I hope it's Melendez. I've been dreaming about this fight for some time now. Plus, the division is already ****ed up. The real lightweight champion is scheduled to for a title at weight class below next month.
What's the big deal anyway? There are what, 3 guys? Winner of Pettis/Cerrone, Melendez and Alvarez. Cerrone would get slaughtered by Benson, so if he beats Pettis, I wouldn't think he has a terrific claim, especially after how badly Diaz beat him. If Pettis beats Cerrone impressively and appears to have fully recovered from injury, then he would be the most compelling match up, considering his win over Benson in WEC.
